Thunderbird 1.0.7
My hdd crashed earlier this week. I could manage to capture the data of
the old drive which includes my old e-mails. I have set up TB on my new
pc and everything works fine.
How do I go about to merge/import these old e-mails of mine onto the new
machine under the new profile.
I have tried this http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/profile but
I cannot get it to merge the two mails.
I also need to know where my old address book is?
Regards,
Deon
When you create a mail account, a folder named after the mail server is
created to hold all data pertaining to that account. (For example
\<profilefolder>\Mail\pop.mail.yahoo.com\) Your mail folders are
contained in UNIX mbox format. They are the files without extensions
(Inbox, not Inbox.msf).
If you've already created the account in your new profile, and already
have new messages in the new folders, Use Thunderbird to create
temporary mail folder (ex. 'Inbox-temp', 'Sent-temp', etc.). Close
Thunderbird, rename the old mbox files to match the names of the
temporary folders, then replace the new files with the old.
You should then be able to open Thunderbird, and move messages from the
temporary folders, to the permanent ones, then use Thunderbird to delete
the temporary folders.
Your personal address book is stored in a file called 'abook.mab'. If
you don't have any new entries in the new address book, open the
Thunderbird address book window, so Thunderbird creates it's own
abook.mab file. Close Thunderbird and replace the newly created
abook.mab with your saved one.
