It takes eeeeeons for thurnderbird to download my messages in the
inbox.
When it does it takes i get some very old (2004!) ones over and over,
along with some new ones on a good day.
Once it is open for a while, when i do open a message, i get a blank
screen. Even if the message was just viewed but a few minutes before.
My outgoing messages are fine.
My isp cannot figure this out and have been very patient checking
things out.
i tried chatzilla but well don't get how it works! helllp please!

Completely close Thunderbird.
Goto your profile folder (
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile#Thunderbird ).
Open 'mail' folder , goto that mail account folder.
delete all '.msf' files.
restart Thunderbird
Still not working!
I noticed another post on this topic and is seems that this did not
work for them either! I did not see the final solution noted there
though!
any other ideas.
cheers

Please bottom post in this newsgroup. Thanks.
I think you are facing two problems :
1.repeated download of old messages - caused by
corrupted 'popstate.dat' file ( located in profile
folder )
2."when i do open a message, i get a blank.." -
caused by corrupted '.msf' files.
First compact folders through File>Compact Folders.
if it doesn't works then , goto profile folder ,
open mail folder , delete all '.msf' files
( also rename 'XUL.mfl' to 'XUL.mfl.bakup' )
Start Thunderbird.
Completely close Thunderbird.
delete or rename or move this file.
Start Thunderbird .
ok! i deleted them all

I do not know how to do this one!

Got all these msf!
> ( also rename 'XUL.mfl' to 'XUL.mfl.bakup' )
the only one i could find is in mozilla not thunderbird
> Start Thunderbird.
I really appreciate your help. I reopened thunderbird and it is still
taking for ever for the mail to come in. My guess is still the old
messages will appear!
took 15 minutes for the inbox to load messages
same old messages as before
no new messages until i wen to the get mail - drop down menu and
selected the address!
ahhhhh!
right - don't panic
and
All you need to do is delete the Popstate.dat file with Thunderbird shut
down. Wait until all messages are downloaded. Then quit and restart T-bird.

the postate.dat file has been deleted with thunderbird shut down.
all the msf files are now gone with thunderbird shut down
it takes more than 15min for the inbox to fill.
Still getting old messages.
I do not even get the pword propt right away.
i lost a ton of stuff though! :(
but hell the inbox friggin' works! Seems like quite a few people are
having this problem.
click on File, then Compact Folders

Amazingly Simple Home Remedies . . .
If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, after which
you'll be afraid to cough.
Open your e-mailbox on the remote server using a web-based mail
interface, such as mail2web.com, and delete the messages from the server
there. That should at least stop the repetitive downloads of old messages.
Make sure your "inbox" and popstate.dat files aren't marked "read only".
Make sure the "Account Settings - Server Settings" check box for "Leave
messages on Server" is NOT checked.

Again, Please try to bottom post in this
newsgroup. Thanks.
Do you have more than one profile? If yes, please
select right profile folder and delete '.msf'
files and 'Popstate.dat' file from that
problematic account folder , ( located in 'mail'
folder ) *when Thunderbird is completely closed*
Now it won't even open :(
Which is a scarry thought!
the error message i get is:
"thunderbird is already running but is not responding. To open a new
window you must close the existing thunderbird process or restart."
That is in fact what I just did!
i renamed the thunderbird profile and moved it. I then downloaded a
new version wich works just fine.
i would however like to reclaim my local folder & my sent folder if
possible. Is this just a matter of moving them over from the old
profile to the new profile?
cheers

In fact, this is one of those things where "there is no try" You do, or
you don't. Please do.
