I have McAfee spam killer for my email, and it has Firefox ticked in the
"E-mail toolbars" list. But the McAfee icon does not appear on my
Firefox toolbar, although it does on Outlook Express.

What do I have to do, please? Firefox version is 1.5.0.14 (20071210).

Sorry, for "Firefox" read "Thunderbird"! Any suggestions?

I am quite a new user of Firefox and hoped that joining this newsgroup
might help me with this problem - but so far not even one response. I
know it's Christmas, but all the other queries being posted seem to
elicit a host of responses.

Isn't there anyone among all those experts out there who can point me in
the right direction?

if you don't get a suitable responce to your (very specific) problem, do

you have, and cannot give an answer!

Two possible reasons:

1. You seem to have an older version of Thunderbird. Most of the
experts have moved on to the current version.

2. In order to answer your question, it would be necessary to have
Norton installed. Most of the experts know better.

the particular question you are asking would be best posted in a McAfee
NG...

if you want an opinion... i would uninstall McAfee ... TB's built-in
junk mail filtering is more than adequate... if I get more than one spam
a week i'm surprised...

furthermore... I would avoid Norton at all costs... unless you like
turning a new computer into a digitized version of molasses sludge...

According to the SpamKiller user guide (online at
http://download.mcafee.com/products/manuals/en-us/MSK_UserGuide_2006.pdf)
the toolbar plug-in only works with OE 6 or later; Oulook 98, 2000 with
SP3, 2003 or XP; Internet Explorer 6 or later.

Try the following:
Right click on the TB toolbar and click on "Customize". In the large
box that appears, look for the McAfee icon. If you find it, drag it to
any toolbar and then click on "Done" in the large box. If you don't
fine a McAfee icon, I don't know what else to tell you.

I think you will find that there just are not a lot of helpers here who
use McAfee, or Norton either, for that matter.

You might be better off asking McAfee support for help on this one.

Oops! Senior moment. Mcafee, but Norton is just as bad.

Thanks - I downloaded the version I had some time before I actually
installed it. Since in options I had "automatically check for updates" I
assumed it would bring it up to date, but apparently not - "update
successfully installed 20/12/07" was still 1.5. I have now installed
2.0.0.9 - but it still does not put McAfee on the toolbar.

Why Norton? Don't answer that - I have seen the later exchange. Happens
to all of us (which is why I put "Firefox" when I meant "Thunderbird"!

Thanks for taking the trouble to look that up, David. However, I note
that it is 2006, so may not be up to date. Certainly my McAfee Security
Centre installation claims to include Firefox among the email programmes
for which is provides an icon in the toolbar.

I have now located McAfee Virtual Technician to see what that comes up with!

Thanks, Sean. I am currently seeing what McAfee virtual technician comes
up with.

I might well try that if unsuccessful, and as you say the TB junk filter
is so good - it certainly seems to pick up things well.

I am puzzled with this obsession with Norton - where did that enter into
the question?

Thanks, Irwin - I had tried that, but no McAfee icon, even after
upgrading to TB 2.0.0.9.

when he only typed norton instead of mcafee
