You probably need to use your provider's "Contact Us" page to ask them what
their hourly and daily limits are. See:

If the daily limit is around 16 emails, then it's easy to understand why your
"about 16" hit it. But if their limit is significantly more then either you sent
more mails than you recall,
or (if eg any of thse mails were to several people) probably each copy counts
as "1"... so one mail sent to one person and eg CCed to three others probably
counts as 4 mails (because ultimately that's what needs to be sent by the
service)
or something else on your computer is sending email.
The provider should be able to tell you what your account did or tried to
do.
