I just upgraded from Netscape 7.2 to Thunderbird 2.0.0.9.

I am accustomed to Netscape displaying, for each mail folder, the number
of unread messages and the total number of messages in each folder.

As installed, my Thunderbird displays the number of unread messages
(in parentheses) but I can't discover how to get it to display the
total number of messages in each folder. Is there a way?

I see the total count in the lower right side of the status bar. Don't you?

Yes, I see it there, thank you, but I have to select each folder to
see the count for that folder. What I wanted was to list the counts
alongside the folder names in the folder list pane.

In the headers of the folders panel there is a funny little drop down
icon which lets you pick the columns you want displayed. Total is one of
the options.

I know the drop down icon you mean (because there is one in the header
of my messages panel) but I don't see one on the header of my folders
panel. There is the heading (e.g. "All Folders") and then a pair of
triangular icons which cycle among views ("All Folders", "Recent
Folders", "Favorite Folders" and "Unread Folders") in either direction.

But no drop-down icon. :-(

Haven't go got another header row under that with the column headings? I
have and I wasn't aware that I'd done anything special to have it displayed!

Ah found it!

Tools, options, Advanced, General, Show expanded columns in the folder pane.

Turn that on and you will be happy!

On 12/8/07 6:09 PM, _Rich Pasco_ spoke thusly:

1. At the top of the Thunderbird window, click on the Tools menu, and
select Options.
2. The Options window will open. In the Options window, click on the
"Advanced" icon, to display the Advanced options panel.
3. In the Advanced options panel, click the "General" tab. (If it isn't
already selected.)
4. Check mark "Show expanded columns in the folder pane"
