Does anyone know what setting I should use (either TB or on the GMail
website) to keep GMail from saving my sent emails? About once a week I
have to get into the web site and delete all my emails from that folder.
I've accessed my GMail account using TB (ver: 1.5.0.14) for quite some
time but have never found this setting. I can delete incoming emails
from the server using TB, but, apparently, not outgoing emails.

If you're using TB to send/receive Gmail:

TOOLS => Account Settings => Your Account => Copies and Folders =>
UNtick the first button "Place a copy in ...."

Thanks for the response Jay. It is interesting that the drop-down for
that particular setting lists "local folder". Unticking it has no
apparent result other than stopping a copy from being placed in my LOCAL
sent folder. I want to stop GMail from putting a copy on the web based
GMail client when I send an email from TB here on my own computer.

There must be some setting somewhere on the web based interface that I'm
missing. Is anyone else using GMail from TB and solved this problem?

I don't do Gmail so I have to plead ignorance here. Is your Gmail
account POP or IMAP in your TB settings? If IMAP then right-click on the
server in the left-hand list and select "subscribe" and then untick
"sent" as THAT may also affect the web setting as well, dunno. If POP
then that is not an option.

Someone else with a Gmail web account may be able to help otherwise.

No problem Jay. I'm hoping also that some soul will read this and be
able to help. I use POP for retrieval/sending.

As far as I'm aware, if you use Gmail's SMTP server to send emails (or
send via Gmail's webmail interface, then that email automatically ends
up in Gmail's Sent Mail. I, too, did not want this to happen and so I
always use Thunderbird to send my mail. So I use my ISP's SMTP server
instead of Gmails' server and then the sent mail goes wherever you
choose to put it (using TB's Copies and Folders option for your account)

Thanks very much Wilf. I was rapidly coming to that decision myself. I
just got tired of having to log into the web interface simply to delete
emails stacked up in the Sent folder. TB is always used to send here
also so I guess that solution is the best one. Thanks.
