Now, if I click on the "My Newspaper Headlines" folder, it says:
"The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Can't
open mailbox Trash/My Newspaper Headlines: no such mailbox."
If I log in to my IMAP account using a webmail client, I don't see this
folder. However, I see it in Thunderbird on different computers. I
tried deleting the folder on a different computer, and it disappears on
that copy of Thunderbird, but reappears when I restart Thunderbird.
Any ideas? Thanks,
threexk
Don't know anything about IMAP. Have you tried dragging it back to
RSS and deleting from there? Or perhaps you can find it in Windows
Explorer in the mail folder as a sub-folder and delete from there? Or
if you can move it back, but still cannot delete it, see if you can
from News & Blogs again using WindExpl.

If I try to drag it anywhere, I get the "no such mailbox" message. If I
close Thunderbird and delete the "My Newspaper Headlines.msf" within
the ImapMail folder via Windows Explorer, it just reappears when I
restart Thunderbird.
In IMAP all your mail and folders are stored on the server, so perhaps
the problematic folder is not getting deleted off the server. However,
I do not see it when using a webmail client.
close thunderbird. open desktop explorer,
if "My Newspaper Headlines" is a directory, it will have a name of
"My Newspaper Headlines.sbd". move it and "My Newspaper Headlines" file
to where you want them. delete "My Newspaper Headlines.msf"
if "My Newspaper Headlines" is a file, move it to where you want it and
delete "My Newspaper Headlines.msf".
after you have done above, move to your profile directory, delete
'panacea.dat'.
open thunderbird, all should be golden.
if not, make snapshots of thunderbird's folder tree and of desktop explorer
showing thunderbird's path. load them up somewhere, or send to me direct.

I'm not sure why same problem appears across different installation even
you have confirmed that folder actually don't exist on server.
See if this fix your issue in your system. f it does then do same in
other systems also.
Close Tb if running.
Goto Tb profile folder.
Delete panacea.dat, XUL.mfl files.
Goto Imap folder > folder of that account.
Move any file with name 'My Newspaper Headlines' from profile folder.
Start Tb in offline mode.
Check if that folder appears.
Toggle status to Online ( File > Offline > (uncheck) work offline ).
Right click on that IMAP account and select Subscribe. In popup window,
click on the Refresh button. Check if that folder reappears.
It is just a file, "My Newspaper Headlines.msf". I closed Thunderbird,
deleted it, moved panacea.dat to the desktop. When I reopened
Thunderbird, the Trash folder for my IMAP account shows no '+' to
indicate subfolders. However, when I click on the IMAP account, it
checks the server and the "My Newspaper Headlines" folder appears under
Trash. (I call it a folder because it gets the Thunderbird folder icon;
if I try to expand it I get the error mentioned in my original post.)
I will take the snapshots you suggested and follow-up. Thanks.
I should be careful to say that I haven't verified the folder doesn't
exist on the server. I have verified it doesn't show up in the Trash
folder of the provided webmail client for this server (Horde 3.1.1).
Maybe the "My Newspaper Headlines" folder is actually on the server, but
Horde doesn't show it.
Results from following your steps:
There was no XUL.mfl in the Tb profile folder, but I deleted
panacea.dat. Also deleted "My Newspaper Headlines.msf". I had trouble
getting Tb to start in offline mode. I tried three different things:
1. thunderbird.exe -offline
2. thunderbird.exe -P, then checking 'Work offline' before clicking
'Start Thunderbird'.
3. Setting Tb to offline mode, closing Tb, restarting Tb.
In all three cases Tb started up in online mode (the lower-left
lightbulb icon was lit.) So I could never really start in offline mode.
However, I could immediately switch to offline mode upon starting
Tb. Then, if I look in the Trash folder of my IMAP account, I do not
see the "My Newspaper Headlines" folder. When I go online, right click
the account and choose subscribe, I can see the folder available as a
subfolder of Trash.
This seems to indicate the "My Newspaper Headlines" folder is on the
IMAP server, yes?
Right. You can do either of these two:
1. Use your browser to login to your imap account if you provider does
provide webmail interface. Delete that folder from there.
2. Call up your mail provider and ask for their help to fix this server
side issue.

3. if does not show in browser, or can not delete from browser, use ftp.
While writing an e-mail to my mail provider, I managed to delete the
folder somehow. Here's what I did in sequence for my three machines
that had Tb open:
1. Machine A: Deleted "My Newspaper Headlines" folder. Went to
Subscribe for the account, unchecked "My Newspaper Headlines" folder.
Closed Tb.
2. Machine B: Deleted "My Newspaper Headlines" folder. Went to
Subscribe for account and observed that "My Newspaper Headlines" was absent.
3. Machine C: Deleted "My Newspaper Headlines" folder. Went to
Subscribe for account and observed that "My Newspaper Headlines" was absent.
So perhaps unsubscribing was required for Thunderbird to fully delete it
from the server?
Thanks for the help.

there are a lot of drastic measures that must be taken sometimes. seems
like you found one of them.
what ever works in 'wizardry world of computers' is correct way. :)
so now, what happens if you resubscribe? that is if you wish to
resubscribe.
anyway, good to know you cleared out problems and thanks for replying
with solution.
Once I deleted the folder, unsubscribed, and closed the subscription
window the checkbox to subscribe to the folder disappeared from the
subscription window. So I can't resubscribe. Go figure.
