Make sure you have Gloda enabled: Tools -> Options -> Advanced ->
General -> Enable Global Search and Indexer.
Then, in the search box on the mail toolbar (if it doesn't exist,
right-click, hit Customize, and add it back in) and type something in.
Then select "Search the web for: <foo>" from the autocomplete dropdown.
Though it's already been mentioned, for completion, you can select text,
right click, and select "Search the web for: <foo>" as well.
If you'd like to open the search results page in your browser, set
mail.websearch.open_externally to true.
