"Collected addresses" seems useless

From the file name "history.mab" it may used to be a place to collect
addresses, but since the setting mail.collect_addressbook default is
moz-abmdbdirectory://abook.mab(Personal address book), it has no reason
to exist as a "system" address book.

Personally I suggest mail.collect_addressbook default to history.mab
(though it is easy to setup but I don't know until I search the
solution) , because the name sounds reasonable and I tend to organize
Personal address book as a neat one, not being messed by new entries.

I find the "Collected addresses" a very nice feature. I use it as a
parking lot for addresses. As everyone else who have reaped the
benefits of the obama world, I have had looking for a new job. Each
time I respond to a recruiter their address stays in the "Collected
addresses" until I have the time to properly organize it in my other
address books.

I also do a lot of genealogy work, and use the "Collected addresses" the
same way. Each time I send an address to some relative their address is
collected and later I can transfer the address to the proper family
subdirectory in the Genealogy address book.

You do not understand my post -- Yes this feature is good but the
addresses should be collected to the real "collected addresses" address
book, instead of the "personal address book" now the TB is using as
default.

The default has changed in Thunderbird 3 (to the collected addresses).

I have forgotten the syntax but I definitely remember having modified my
prefs.js file to reflect the fact I personally don't care about
collecting addresses (this is just me) and that I wanted abook.mab to be
my default address book.

If anybody can make sense of those lines in my prefs.js, here they are:

user_pref("ldap_2.servers.default.filename", "default.mab");
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.default.replication.lastChangeNumber", 0);
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.default.uri",
"moz-abldapdirectory://default.mab");
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.history.filename", "D:\\default.mab");
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.history.replication.lastChangeNumber", 0);
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.pab.description", "Adresses");
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.pab.replication.lastChangeNumber", 0);

To clarify, "Adresses" is not a typo, just the name of my address book
(adresses is french for Addresses if you did not guess!).

Bottom line, whatever TB3 does (I am still with TB2), I am convinced it
can be changed by experimenting in prefs.js.

To add the collected address to a separate address book, first create
that book

File---> new ---> Address book. Your name

Once it is created go to

Tool---> options ---> composition

Check Automatically add outgoing email addresses
Hit the down arrow on the window and select the address book where you
want the address to go.

Click ok

Your address will then be collected in the book of your desire.

Yes this is "the easy solution" I have mentioned. My point was TB's
default setting makes no sense. Thanks for sharing anyway!
