I back-up my thunderbird email account every month on a storage drive. My computer recently crashed and now I am trying to restore my back-up from the storage drive. Here are the steps I am taking:
Clicked on "restore a profile"
Chose "Mozilla Thunderbird"
Browsed through my storage drive and chose the .pvc backup.
Once I choose the file the "next" box does not let me do anything, it stays gray.

I have restored previously and tried this on two computers and not working.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I am running Window 7 on this computer, my other computer was XP Home edition.

Thanks

.pvc is an unfamiliar extension to me. When I Googled it, the hits
indicated it is a music/voice file (apparently a Panasonic proprietary
format). So it seems you are accessing the wrong file. If you used a
back-up-and-restore program to back up files, you must use the same
program restore them..

For full backup you only have to copy the entire directory from

C:\Documents and Settings\<specific user>\Datos de programa\Thunderbird

Or the specific language directory of the SO installed

What program did you use to back up your Thunderbird e-mail account?
Googling for ".pvc file extension" doesn't bring up any obvious back up
programs.

So sorry I meant a .pcv file.

Tracy is using mozbackup, and is no doubt picking a pcv file type, which
would be correct for mozbackup

I had seen something like this and having trouble remembering solution.
Either:
* do any thunderbird profiles exist on this PC? mozbackup only restores
to an "existing" profile.
* try version 1.5 beta of mozbackup

Those not sure how to find the directory can use the Mozbak
backup/restore tool (free).

To me it was not clear it you were trying to restore the Mozbackup file
.pvc from Thunderbird or from the Mozbackup program. Fortunate I have
not have to restore a backup, BUT it is my understanding the the Restore
has to be done from the MozBackup program not from Thunderbird.

Thank you! After your messages I realized that I had to set up my email account first in Thunderbird (I did download it, just didn't set up my email address). I thought that I could just import the information and the account would be there.

After I set up my account it did work and I have successfully imported my backup.

you don't even have to create an account.

but you must have a PROFILE. to create the profile. you simply start
thunderbird, and cancel the account creation process. proceed
immediately to restore :)
