Welcome to mozilla.support.screenshots

A place to 'show' your problem, or your solution

This is the place on the support server for a user to post a screenshot regarding a support issue where posting a representative shot would better explain the particular issue in order to get or give the best available answer.

You could of course post a link to your website if you have one, or post a link to one of the free image hosting services such as Photobucket or Imageshack if you are capable. This group is not the only means of making a screen shot available. Please be aware that users of Google Groups will not be able to see images posted to the newsgroup.

The group is a moderated newsgroup. All posts to the group have to be approved by the moderator. You do not have to subscribe to the mailing list to post to the group.  All you have to do is make your screenshot post to the newsgroup,  it will automatically be sent to the moderator

What Guidelines are there?

The general 'guidelines' for this group can be found here
http://www.mozilla.org/community/etiquette.html
Additionally, please note that this group falls into the *support
hierarchy and as such are subject to
http://www.mozilla.org/community/cancellation.html

What can I post in this newsgroup?

Images made with or pertaining to a Mozilla product.
They may be used to show a problem, a solution, or a situation you are experiencing difficulty with, or are helping with
You can use edited portions of screenshots, or the entire screenshot .

What can I not post in this newsgroup?

Discussion posts with regards to the screenshots are not allowed, see 'notation' requirement below.

Are there any remarks or notations I should make in the post?

Please provide a note as to where the discussion for the specific screenshot is, i.e. mozilla.support.firefox  or mozilla.support.seamonkey  or some such.  You can mark the post with a 'Follow-up' header if you wish, but it is not necessary.  Discussion posts will not be allowed in the screenshot newsgroup.  Please put the notation in the body of the message.

Inclusion of a valid email address in the message would be preferable, see
'What will occur if my post is rejected?' below
Non inclusion of a valid email is not a reason for rejection however

How long will it take for my screenshot post to appear?

The intention is to keep 'hold' times to a minimum. There may be periods where delays may reach to several hours, but certainly within a day.

How big can my screenshot be?

The total size of the entire post, inclusive of headers, notations and all should be less than 1MB. You can use image processing programs to 'crop' a screenshot  if necessary to avoid size issues.

Can I make replies to my post? Can others make replies?

No, not within this newsgroup. As above you should provide a notation within the original post as to where you want the discussion to be. Replies to posts will not be approved.

What subject line should I use?

For clarity I would suggest using the same subject line that was used in the discussion post.
i.e. if you made a post describing the problem with the Subject "Firefox not showing the same as Opera" then your subject line in this newsgroup should be the same. Likewise if providing an answer, you can tell the user to look in this newsgroup for an image, giving the same subject matter as the discussion thread
This makes it easier for people to find your discussion post (or your screenshot post) when they change groups.

What will occur if my post is rejected?

The post will be returned to the sender if possible with a notation as to why the message was not allowed.
