Hi, does instant bird support encryption ? I mean OTR and PGP. Haven't found any info on website and also haven't find any add-on about this.

Also interested if it is possible to import conversation data from other clients and export it in case switching to a new computer or other OS(I am using mac and win).

You told that it is possible to import Mozilla plugins, what about Miranda plugins? I was really in love with history++ plugin because of easy search and bookmarks. Saw you are planning to extend log viewer functionality, would be great if you use history++ as a base.

Does instant bird support fingerprints? I mean detection which client your chat mate is using and telling you about it.

Can you use jabber protocol in instant bird in invisible mode?

Thanks

Vitaly,

Thanks for your interest in Instantbird (one word, by the way!). I'll
answer your questions inline below.

Instantbird does not support OTR or PGP currently, there is an open bug
about adding OTR support, however [1].

> Also interested if it is possible to import conversation data from other clients
We had a Google Summer of Code student last year who worked on an import
wizard to find and import accounts, settings and logs from other clients
[2]. This has not been included in Instantbird yet, but hopefully will
be soon!

If you're concerned about sharing a profile between multiple computers,
there are a variety of ways to do this, none of them are Instantbird
specific (they'd work for Firefox or Thunderbird as well). In other
words, you don't need to necessarily worry about "exporting" your logs
individually if you sync your profiles.

> You told that it is possible to import Mozilla plugins, what about Miranda plugins?
I'm not really sure what you mean by "import Mozilla plugins",
extensions for Firefox or Thunderbird are generally easy to port to
Instantbird, but you won't necessarily be able to just use them. You
cannot use a Miranda plugin with Instantbird.

If you have specific improvements you'd like to see in the log viewer,
we'd love to hear them, please file bugs [3]!

I'm unsure what you're asking about here. Can you give more details?
Is this specific to PGP/OTR?

> Can you use jabber protocol in instant bird in invisible mode?
XMPP is a supported protocol, yes. It looks like we don't currently
support invisibility for it, however [4]. (It also looks like there
isn't a standard way to support this, so it probably wouldn't be fun to
add.)

You're welcome. It's not that we don't want to support OTR, but we'd need
to ensure there's a good user experience around it. We've had a lot of
people complain we don't support it, but no one has been willing to step up
and add support.

Again, I'd ask you to file (specific) bugs, each asking for an individual
feature or enhancement if you find that something is not supported. Sorry,
I will not be giving history++ a try, I do not use Miranda.

I'm still unsure what you mean by a finger print, usually this is a crypto
term referring to some hash of the user's key.

Some clients might support Invisibility, Instantbird does not. Note that
even if the protocol supported it, we don't actually support it in our UI
(see [2] for information why). Someone did request this for XMPP, however
[1], I gave some information but no one ever provided a patch. What is
your use case for being invisible? It seems to defeat the purpose of using
instant messaging.

Thanks for your feedback on Instantbird,
Patrick
