I accidentally deleted my saved passwords in my Firefox browser, when I was
only to delete one of them.
Is there any way I can restore them all, or are they gone now forever?

Please someone help me, I really really need them back =(

Greetings Sirpa

They are kept in an encrypted profile file, signons2.txt; if you don't
have a backup of that file, well, you can guess the rest of this
sentence [ ].

Very sorry you lost your passwords, Sirpa. This demonstrates the
importance of the occasional or weekly total computer backup. (I use
Acronis TrueImage.)

It also demonstrates another problem that I've seen with Firefox since
the outset -- the two buttons "remove" and "remove all" should not be
side-by-side. And perhaps "remove" should read "remove this password,"
or words to that effect. And "remove all" should have a popup window
asking, "Hey dummy are you sure you want to get rid of all of your
passwords?" Perhaps there is something similar, but I haven't seen it
simply because I'm so paranoid about pulling a Sirpa.

Lol, very nice, but I so agree with you, it didn't even popup any
confirmation window asking if I'm sure I wanna delete them all =/. It was
just a misstype of buton, when trying to delete just one saved what was
duplicated in there.
Well I guess I'm getting some help now as I found the file where they are
supposed to be, and yes I see the usernames and after them there is a long
code with letters then *password. How in the earth can I now input and
restore these to where they should be?

As I did a system restore to a backpoint, this morning I undid that and I
found the signons2.txt file after it.
Just that I am now here looking like a superhuge Questmark ;P
lol

Sirpa :D

Can't tell if you found your answer or not, but if you are going to
copy your signons2.txt file with your passwords, you will also
need to copy key3.db, which has the encryption key.

Just FYI, in case Sirpa does not return here: He accidentally replied to
my newsgroup message to him as a personal e-mail. While I've not heard
from him since earlier today (his language is Finnish, I assume he's in
Finland), I believe that I was able to work him through the problem(s).

I know he had found the signons2.txt file, but was trying to do
something with it, so I told him that there was nothing he could do, but
also that he needed to be certain that the key3.db file had been restored.

Oh, yeah, think he wanted to export to a csv file, now that he has things
intact, he should be able to do that.

Hi there,
well life is busy and have not had time to be by my computer.
First I must correct you all, that "He is a She" 100% lol

I got them both signons2.txt and key3.db files in my profile folder,
I will try this by going to this url below, hope it has instructions, so
I will manage to do it.

Thank you all very much for helping me out, and sorry again John,
that I directed my email direct to you instead of to the newsgroup,
what I meant to do really.

Greetings
Sirpa
( a very female name in Finland ;)

On 11/3/07 3:49 AM, _Miles_ spoke thusly:

That was implemented in Firefox 2.
