Firefox 53.0.2 on Win 7 Pro

Vimeo videos are not playing for me on Firefox, but they do play on MSIE.
The opening image shows on the screen but, when I click on the play button,
all that happens is that it changes to a pause button.

Any suggestions what I can do to fix this?

A specific URL would help. I went to the vimeo site and tried two of their
front-page offerings and both of them worked fine with 54.0b6 (32-bit)
under W10.

Have you set media.autoplay to false? The default is true so you would
remember probably.

You could try moving the timebar slider forward a bit and then back
again.

I have experience this on occasion!

What happens when you do a Refresh the page?

Is it set to ?Autoplay=1 in the url?
Is it on your first play, or is it an autoplay after another one?

Is it more than one video?

Yes, the setting is to false. I did this to stop all the nuisance videos
from playing without my consent.

Moving the timebar makes no difference.

You need to Reset "media.autoplay.enabled" to true.

the autoplay toggle add-on makes it easy to deal with this.

What level of Firefox?
Help / About Firefox

Have you tried ?
Help / Restart with Add-ons Disabled

I have tested your link with the newest Firefox (53), 32 bit and 64 bit.
It works.

I have tried it with Firefox ESR 45, 32 bit; it works.

It sounds like you have back-level Firefox with a Back-level Flash.

All I can say is that it works fine here. Do you have any 'interesting'
add-ons and plug-ins? Have you tried safe mode? A new profile is always a
fallback that is suggested when all else faile.

Opps, hit send by accident.

Unfortunately Autoplay Toggle is not multiprocess compatible.

So I need to break my Firefox twice? Once setting
"media.autoplay.enabled" to false, and then disable multiprocess so I
can use the extension. Also losing the benefit that multiprocess provides.

Oki.

That works for me with Safari, but not with Opera or SeaMonkey.

How about the Prefbar extension? I customized it to add a "AutoPlay"
checkbox tied to the appropriate preference, and it works fine, and
Prefbar is listed as being compatible with e10s.

How about setting "media.autoplay.enabled" back to true, don't add any
extensions.

Any videos that start auto-playing for me I just mute the tab and read
the text. Some pages you can even use Reader Mode and do away with the
video entirely.

But we are trying to help David play videos on Vimeo. What he does after
he resets "media.autoplay.enabled", is up to him. My best wishes for a
successful solution.

I changed media.autoplay back to true and it appears to have solved the
problem.

Thanks to everyone who replied with helpful advice.

It works for me, too.

Firefox 53.0.2 (64-bit), both with e10s enabled and e10s disabled.

Chrome 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit).

This is under Windows 5 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit).

Both browsers have AdBlock Plus installed with lists:
- Adblock Warning Removal List
- EasyList
- Disable Malware
Y Allow some non-intrusive advertsing
(vimeo.com is _not_ whitelisted in my installation of AdBlock Plus.)

I have other extensions installed in both browsers, but no extensions
that deal with blocking sites or blocking scripts.

For the past three months I had been fighting Avast Internet Security,
which has been discarding packets, which produced issues with streaming
videos. While I discovered an incompatibility with AMDquickstream and
removed AMDquickstream from my system, it wasn't a complete solution,
even though it's removal reduced tremendously the number of lost
packets. Today I have finally taken off Avast and installed Norton
Security Suite, which is a perk of my Comcast Broadband service.
(Besides, I was growing tired of having to find all the places to turn
off the "signature" Avast wants to add to outgoing posts.)

So, just as a test, you might try turning off your antivirus software
briefly to see if the video will play. At least you could do that to
convince yourself that it isn't the antivirus software. :)
