type "about:config" in the address bar. Do a search for
"network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" if the value is "false"
change it to "true".
That fixed the problem for me.
I checked the setting and it is true. My problem is now the Send Link
opens MS Outlook instead of Thunderbird. I don't use Outlook. How can
I get back to linking ti Thunderbird?

Close TB. Set OE as default mail reader. Close OE. Open TB and set it
as default mail [and news] reader. Send link work now?

Lets get on the same page. In FIrefox, you are clicking on an Mmailto
link, which causes your default mail client to open. It is opening
Outlook, and you would prefer that it open Thunderbird. Is that a
correct statement of your problem?
If so, whether Firefox is default or not is immaterial. If Firefox is
open and you click on a mailto link, it will open what ever is your
default mail client.
Strictly speaking, this is a TB problem, not a FF one, but if you follow
Irwin's advice to Sean, it should solve it.

Sounds to me like you want it to open a webmail account (hotmail, yahoo
mail, Gmail, etc.).
For that, you'll need a Firefox extension. From your posting address,
I'll assume you use Gmail. In which case, the Gmail Manager extension is
probably your best choice.
