For the last couple of days, since updating to Firefox 36.0.4, I have
been receiving intermittent errors on various websites. The error
message from all of them is:

> XML Parsing Error: unexpected parser state Location: jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Firefox/browser/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/browser/aboutNetError.xhtml Line Number 400, Column 50:

The error seems to occur after a website fails to load completely and
then times out.

One such website is: http://www.fox10phoenix.com/category/233272/local
Another is: https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/

The error does NOT occur consistently.

I have updated Firefox to 37.0.1

Can I expect to see this same error since updating?

What is the cause of the error?

AFAIK, nobody knows what causes it. It's bug 569229, and people have
been filing duplicate bugs of that one for years, but it looks like no
one has figured out how to reproduce it. It might help if you add
those two URLs in a bug comment, but I can't reproduce it at them
either. (At the tartanregister site, I get nothing -- the connection
times out and leaves me with only a blank page, no error message at
all.)

Wasn't the Error Console replaced by the Browser Console?

I've been seeing those on and off for weeks now; can't remember which
version of FF I was first using when it happened. I've not kept note of
whether its always the same place in omni.ja that's mentioned though nor
looked in the consoles for clues.

Just came up with another:

Different line number in the same file in this div:

> <div id="errorDescriptionsContainer">

Interesting in that it is from the

https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/

site that just sits there and doesn't load. This came up after about 3
hours of sitting there.
