All of a sudden thumbnails in YouTube don't work anymore and neither do
their buttons (for instance: I can click Share/Delen, but nothing
happens). It looks like this:
<http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7048/youtubev.png>
Booting Fx in Safe Mode doesn't solve the problem. Weirdly enough, a
version (3.6.12) of Portable Firefox with (almost) the same add-ons
seems to work. Thumbnails are shown and I can click all buttons.
What could cause this problem? I'm under the impression it started after
the last update of both Flash and Shockwave, but Portable Fx also seems
to use the latest versions, so...
I'm tempted to make a new profile and transfer as much data as I can
from the old profile, but I'd rather keep the old profile so any help is
appreciated.

Did you clear cache and selective cookies for that site?

Before or after I tried Safe Mode? In any case, cookies and cache are
automatically cleared when I exit Fx. I tried manually clearing them,
but this doesn't seem to help. :~(

YouTube can be quite obstinate at times and sometimes I have to use
IE-Tab to correct certain pages/displays, etc.

I already tried IE and that was showing the page correctly. And I
thought about it being YouTube to blame, but that doesn't explain why
it's working correctly with Portable Firefox (with almost the same
add-ons).
Maybe I'll wait a few days and see how it works out. If it's not fixed,
then I'll probably make a new profile and transfer as many data as I can
(and then hope that YouTube is showing thumbnails again).

I (manually) make a weekly backup of
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla
So I replaced the current Mozilla folder with a backup from October 2.
Still the same problem... :~(

Is this on all YT pages or just a few and if a few, post a url.
> Is this on all YT pages or just a few and if a few, post a url.
The screenshot I mentioned earlier is on the homepage:
<http://www.youtube.com/>
If I try a search though, I can see the first 7 thumbnails and rest are
blanks.
<http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=recoil>
<http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/4093/youtube2.png>
Doesn't really matter which search I do, every time it's the first 7 I
get to see. Weird...
All I can think of is: recently I updated Adblock Plus, Element Hiding
Helper, Flash and Shockwave. But this doesn't seem to matter since
Portable Fx is ok with those add-ons/plugins enabled.

In about:config enter dom.storage.enabled and change to "true".

No change unfortunately... :~(
I'll try creating a new profile and transfer as much data as I can.

Ok, I tried that and the problem seems to be about cookies. I've set Fx
up to block all (third-party) cookies. Adding youtube.com to Exceptions
doesn't seem to work in my original profile. However, I /does/ work in
my duplicate profile (which has the same add-ons installed). Any idea
how to fix this? :-?

If you opted to not use cookies it won't work. You can opt to "ask" and
then select "session" and it will work and the cookie(s) will be removed
upon exiting the site(s).

See my other reply regarding cookies

Tnx for sticking with me, Jay, but blocking cookies globally and
allowing youtube.com for session *works* in my duplicate profile. And
for God knows what reason these same settings /don't/ work in my
original profile. I guess it's gremlins or something?
Anyway, if this can't be explained or fixed, then I'll opt for the
duplicate profile. I already transferred and installed several things.
It only needs some fine tuning now...

It was not after upgrading to 3.6.12 that I experienced this problem.
The new profile shows the thumbnails from YouTube without a problem. I'm
pretty sure it has something to do with cookies (and how they're
handled) and the add-ons I have installed. (Although the new profile has
the same add-ons as the original. But there /are/ some different
settings...)

Thanks
After months of issues with SM hanging, running slowly, and all sorts of
other issues and, after trying to test etc. with bare-bones profiles and
Safe Mode, I finally bit the bullet and created a new profile and
migrated ONLY those essentials like address books (assuming that they
couldn't be causing the kind of issues I was seeing). That worked.
Over time I'll probably find some customizations that need to be
re-instated. And I'll try to document them so that, if the issue arises
again, I can, maybe, pinpoint it. But, ultimately, I have not clue as
to the cause of the issue. Only that starting over solved it.
