Is there a Firefox keyboard shortcut to open & view an image in a new tab?

Holding the control key, and right clicking on an image, one can view
the image in a new tab without disturbing the focus on the current tab,
but that takes two hands and multiple clicks.

Same thing with putting the mouse on a linked image and then opening that
link in a new tab (which usually is the image itself from a thumbnail).

Is there a keyboard shortcut that doesn't require the mouse navigating
to a popup menu for the two most common commands?

1. Open Link in New Tab
2. View Image

It's a laptop, with an integral set of buttons.
The middle button does not do (for me) what you say it does (for you).

1. I go to an arbitrary image page, e.g.,
http://hdw.eweb4.com/search/colorful+flowers/
2. If I click the middle button on an image, nothing happens
(well, I can scroll down the web page with the little red erasure
if I hold down the middle button - but nothing *else* happens)
3. If I click the right button on an image, I get a menu containing
- Open Link in New Tab
- Open Link in New Private Window
- View Image
- etc
As shown in this screen capture http://i.imgur.com/AMdrhjE.jpg

The best I can do, to save steps, is use *two hands*, one to hold the
control key, and the other to manipulate the buttons and erasure on
the laptop keyboard.

But, is there simply a Firefox keyboard shortcut that handles those
