The Download statusbar plugin for Firefox latest version does not seem
to function at all now. What happened to the alerts and the function?
even the default window showing downloads does not come up until
selected from the menu. Is there a switch someplace to fix this because
it is extremely inconvenient and bothersome.

Thx,
30mm

Open about:config (put 'about:config' in the address bar).
Set 'browser.download.useToolkitUI' to true.

The built-in download manager was updated in April with a new interface,
including a download progress bar. For more info, visit
<http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/find-and-manage-downloaded-files>.

Did the problem start happening after an update? Does the new download
manager cover the features you were using Download Statusbar for?

The built-in download manager has a progress bar on the download button.

The built-in download manager also provides a notification.

None of that is working... at all.

I'm sorry to 'hear' it failed. It absolutely worked for me. To see if it's an
addon problem, have you tried launching Firefox with addons disabled and then,
while addons are disabled, setting 'browser.download.useToolkitUI' to true?
Other than that, try reinstalling Firefox. After that, I'm afraid I can't help.

Good luck,
Mark.

I tried godaddy.com & domainsbyproxy.com ...and I'm sorry I did!

In another reply you said you tried setting
"browser.download.useToolkitUI" to true. In order to see the progress
meter on the toolbar, you need to have "browser.download.useToolkitUI"
set to false.

I can't get Dowloadstatusbar to work at all and have removed it.
Apparently there is no agreement on how to fix it.
Even the default download window shows nothing when and after downloading.

BTW I have Waterfox and it disables new addons that are incompatible,
but starting up FF and re-enabling addons [such as Appearance plugins
seems to work.

It is supposed to. Did you set "browser.download.useToolkitUI" to false?

If you need help with Waterfox, it's best to use their forums, via

What's happened is they finally shut of nsIDownloadManager and switched full to Downloads.jsm a javascript based download manager. If I could find the relevant calls and functions to get the information that Download Statusbar is able to display, I don't think it would be terribly hard to update it. Downloads.jsm works differently and the calls made to it are formed differently, so it's taking a while to figure out where to look. I've been looking at the other Download Status Bar to try to find out what calls are being made, but his code is a bit garbled in my text editor, it's taking a while to figure out which bit is calling the data needed. Aside from that if someone were familiar with both nsIDownloadManager and Downloads.jsm calls they could probably switch out the calls in a matter of an hour or two.

I, too, miss Download Statusbar. I am very happy to hear that you are
working on updating it.
