The problem for me was not Adblock Plus but the the hosts file
most of which comes from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
I'm not going to track down which entry it may be, I'd guess it has something
to with doubleclick and I will not take out any doubleclick entries, and I do have
some additional doubleclick entries added that may or may not be in the
above hosts.htm file. But temporarily renaming hosts file, I could run
the Flash videos. On Windows 7, I can make modifications to hosts file and
they are immediate without restarting Firefox or Windows.

HTH,
David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site
Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm
- Make sure js.revsci.net isn't being blocked in your hosts file.
- If you're using the NoScript extension, allow js.revsci.net or
revsci.net.
Hope this helps. Please let us know whether it does.

Edit: It appears that ads.revsci.net and pix04.revsci.net may need to
be allowed too.

I have the plain hosts file
I have plain hosts file and do not use NoScripts

Did I confuse the issue by referring to the MVPS.org document
as hosts.htm, a file linked in there is installed without an extension.
Alan's suggestions worked for me, I had already commented out
the two additional files mentioned in his later post, and I could have discovered them
easily from blockable files list in Adblock Plus which it claims are to
be whitelisted and the hosts file had blocked.
By hosts, I was referring to /etc/hosts (Linux). Turning
Ad Block Plus off made no change. I also have a customer
with the same problem runnging XP-Pro-sp3.
Is there another hosts file out there?
Many thanks,
-T
On Windows XP SP3 it's located at
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
They showed up as whitelisted in the Adblock Plus Blockable Items
pane. I was using either Fanboy's List or EasyList.
okay. Nothing is them other than the 127.0.0.1 stuff
Another issue to watch is any blocks on Flash LSOs.
We in UK are finding this week that blocking the setting of Flash LSOs
breaks BBC News videos. If you are having trouble with BBC videos, check
that one out, and it looks like you now can't watch BBC news video
without being tracked covertly by the BBC even if you are UK viewer.

Can you help me out?

The entries that block items may look a little different than
the default items that you have with your system. Added
entries look like this mostly without comments. Anything
after # sign is a comment so for those needed for FoxNews
I commented them out. There are hundreds of entries these
are just a few of them.

Other places that you might be blocked is
1) your choice of a DNS server, which was probably made
by your ISP if they set it up for you.
2) blocking in userContent.css which predates Adblock, you
can read about in http://www.floppymoose.com/
but you would have had to have created userContent.css
yourself and populated it.
3) Stylish extension with at style

Okay. Found this. They run in "Safe Mode". In regular
mode, I have to completely uninstall both Flash Block and
Ad Block Plus. Disabling them does not work.
Any ideas on how to get this to work with my favorite
two extensions installed?
May thanks,

I'll try.
- While viewing the Survival at Sea link, I opened the Adblock Plus
Blockable Items pane by right-clicking the ABP icon and selecting Open
blockable items (or pressing Ctrl+Shift+V. I'm using EasyList for
this test.
- Sort the Filter column by clicking on the "Filter" column header
until the filters are at the top. I see three green filters -- the
others are red or blue. All three of these filters begin with "@@".
That, and the fact that they're green, mean they're "whitelist"
filters, which turn off ad blocking for any urls they match.
The three filters I see are:
@@||video-cdn.abcnews.com/ad_$object_subrequest
@@||adsatt.abc.starwave.com^$object_subrequest
@@||abc.vad.go.com/dynamicvideoad?$object_subrequest
Ensure that none of their domains is blocked by a hosts file (or
anything else):
video-cdn.abcnews.com
adsatt.abc.starwave.com
abc.vad.go.com
I don't know. I wouldn't expect any of these domains to be in a hosts
file. If you're still having a problem, maybe David's reply elsewhere
in this thread will help.

The above URL's MUST be unblocked for video. It was a rather lengthy process
to isolate them, wish I knew a shorter way. If anyone has a shortcut PLEASE
let us know.
BTW, for anyone else who uses that HOSTS file, here's a few more entries I
have commented out which you may find of interest:
cdn.visiblemeasures.com # remark this line out to get PBS video
altfarm.mediaplex.com # remark this line out to get eBay cm.ebay
ads.revsci.net # remark this line out to get FOXnews
pix04.revsci.net # remark this line out to get FOXnews (there are other
similar URL's which may need changing in future)
js.revsci.net # remark this line out to get FOXnews (for FF only)
Was having trouble with FOXnews and either ABCnews or CBSnews (don't
remember). The video windows kept flashing 'loading' and FOXnews logo but no
video. Turns out FLASH settings MUST be setup to allow 3rd party falsh
content be stored on your computer (sheeezzz) as well as certain entries be
unblocked in HOSTS.
Here's the configuration link:

Good detective work, Vic. I found that attempting to use a hosts file
to block tracking and ads is more trouble than it's worth: too many
false positives! I use the Adblock Plus, NoScript, and Better Privacy
extensions instead. Unlike a hosts file, Adblock Plus and NoScript
will show exactly what is being blocked and provide an easy way to
selectively disable blocking. Actually, I think Adblock Plus
sufficiently blocks tracking as well as ads. I use NoScript for
security and general plugin content blocking. Instead of blocking
third-party LSOs with the macromedia settings, which can cause
problems like the ones you experienced, I've set up Better Privacy to
delete *all* LSOs whenever I close Firefox.
additionally you might consider Ghostery against tracking one-pixel
images.
Thank you, Christoph. I think Adblock Plus already blocks those, so
adding Ghostery in this case isn't necessary.
