I use Yahoo for all email. Suddenly many emails have no content. Same
emails are fine in IE but in FF there are NO contents in the email.
Latest example is the announcement by PC MAG of an update to their
Utilities Library. BUT if I forward it I can see the contents. BUT #2
when I receive the forward it is blank again. WTF is going on??

Hi Lou,
If you installed the "Redirect Remover" extension then
you would have to whitelist at the very least:
http://login.yahoo.com/*
http://geocities.yahoo.com/*
see my page
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#redirectremover

If you have adblock deactivate it to see if it works then.

If you have GreaseMonkey deactivate it to see it it works then.

Check your userContent.css this applies to GMail possible
would also affect yahoo. Placed ther if you went to
floppymoose.com you may have the equivalent in Adblock.
/* disable ad iframes */
/* IFRAME[SRC*="ad."], -- taken out for GMail */
You would have to have cookies enabled, and most likely JavaScript
as well in your Tools, Options, ...

Lou,

FWIW, I've been having the same problem with Firefox 1.0.6 for a couple of
days now. What version of FF do you have?

For me the problems seems to be somewhat intermittent and I think it is only
with messages that have images in them. I have HTML images turned off in my
Yahoo preferences and the message will open with everything visible except
the images. If I click on the "Show HTML Graphics" option at the bottom of
the message, then everything goes away and the message is blank and the
status bar on the bottom says 'Done'. If I go back the Inbox folder, then
reselect the message, it comes up the same way and goes blank again when I
click "Show HTML Graphics".

Some of the messages with images can be viewed normally and I think that I
have been able to open a few bad ones eventually, but I can't seem to do
that now.

I don't have "Redirect Remover", "adblock", "GreaseMonkey" or "No Script"
that were mentioned by some other replies. The only extension I run is
"miniT". I am using Zone Alarm and AVG antivirus, but I haven't made any
recent changes. I was planning to update to Firefox 1.5 if I can find a
copy to download, but based on your similar experiences, I'm not sure that
will solve the problem.

Good luck, BDT

close Firefox *completely*
create a test profile ( start > run , type "firefox.exe" -P )
start with that new profile , check your yahoo account again.
[you should disable/shutdown ZoneAlarm while testing with new profile]

type about:config on the location bar
then filter on image
permissions.default.image set to 1
double-click or right-click to change the value to 1
to load all images

I definitely remember having that problem with Yahoo.
It will only affect previous Firefox users and only those
who turn off external images, typically people who are
on or were on dial-up. Or maybe even those who
accidentally change an option two levels down in
the Web Developer. The change in Fx2 was that
the option is no longer available in Tools, Options.

..., prior to Firefox 1.5 was known as
permissions.default.image. and prior to Firefox 2.0 was
network.image.imageBehavior and had additional options in the Tools,Options,Content tab. Also could get accidentally disabled at:
Tools, Web Developer, images, disable images,
[_] external images -- more comments

Thank You!

I am using Firefox/2.0.0.1

You solved the problem and it is YAHOO.

I did not have "Block HTML graphics in email messages from being
downloaded" When I checked it I now see the email. Yahoo is screwed up!

Thanks for the feedback on the answer (BT's) that worked.

That's something, to even to get there, you have to click
on Options to get to Mail Options, but once there you only see
what you can do, the links are actually the blue topic headings
without any indication that they are links.

But I tested sending HTML by pasting a page with images
to myself at Yahoo and and I saw it all without changing
from what is probably the default (radio selection),
certainly not by selecting to block all images (in a logic reversal).

I'm in the US (Fx 2.0.0.1) and since I'm being induced to try the
Beta, I would assume that I not on the Beta. (Unlike HotMail
and GMail beta which were only Beta like almost forever).

This is very puzzling. I already had the option, " Block HTML graphics in
email messages from being downloaded" checked and some of my mail is still
blank. The mystery continues. I'll try some of these other suggestions and
see what might help.

Glad you are fixed though. BT

Another suggestion might be up-grading to something more recent than Fx
1.0.6, which is nearly a year and a half old. ;-)

Yep, Yahoo has a bug in one of their scripts - the message only shows
up if every image inside the mail body loads correctly. If one doesn't
you won't be able to see the message. I already sent a full
description of this bug and a proposed solution to one of Yahoo's
developers, lets hope they will fix this soon. In the meantime User
Agent Switcher (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/59/) can help, this
code is for Gecko browsers only :-(

I typed about:config on the address bar and filtered on image.
I had 10 lines in the resultant list, none of which is
permissions.default.image. I did a 'Show All' and there are
no results starting with 'permissions'. Any further thoughts?

I'll still try some of these other suggestions and maybe I'll
get lucky.

I thought you solved Lou's problem. I don't see anything
with the wordings you and Lou describe.

Anyway permissions.default.image has a default of 1
so it really doesn't matter that you would have to create
the name (applicable only to 1.5 and above) if you wanted
to see it.

It seems that Lou's problem is solved, but as my earlier reply
to his post indicates, the same problem persists for me. He
changed his settings to match mine and his problem went away.
My problem existed with those same settings and it still exists.

I think I'll upgrade from FF 1.0.6 to 1.5 and then see how things
look.

thanks, BT

This is a very recent update, there are indications that it isn't even
on all Yahoo servers yet. Also, the case of some image not loading
inside message body might be rare enough so that most people will
never notice this issue.

Just go to the link for the Extension called User Agent Switcher (above) and
install it, then add the button to your toolbar. Then, if you have a
message
that you can't read, just click the button and select the IE option. It's
working
for me.

good luck, BT

According to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368966#c3
Yahoo should roll out the update sometime next week, then it will work
again.

My problem is that I get the messages with graphic boxes and while I think
the boxes are going to open (they DONT have a red X in them), I wait till
DONE. By then the boxes are gone, no graphics and the text has all moved
upwards where the boxes were.

So I am left with the captions and no pics :-(

Please help if possible.
