I tried it and I realized that Pocket is useless for someone that uses
FF only on his computer. Such a user can have a folder on the Bookmarks
Toolbar, and add and remove webpage links there.

Following directions in earlier thread, I toggled 2 config values and
removed the button from the toolbar. Now, how can I remove the Bookmarks
> View Pocket List item?

What, however, would be interesting for off-line users would be a
similar add-on that with the click of a button would save a webpage in a
folder in the computer, access the webpage from a dropdown list (or from
a browser webpage) when off-line, and delete it also from the computer
when deleting the bookmark in the FF list. Such an add-on would make it
easier to save articles to read later and to delete them after reading
them. Is there anything like this available?

Create a folder on the bookmarks toolbar called 'read later', and
anything that comes up you want to read later, can be dragged to that
folder entry on the toolbar. Deleting the entry is as simple as
selecting it, and right-click/delete. One note; be sure to read them
soon because some links expire rather quickly, especially on news sites.

There is for the Safari browser. I think it is called "Reading List".
It behaves exactly as you have described.

Isn't that contrary to Pocket? Isn't pocket supposed to capture all the web page pieces so that it never goes out of
date and you can view it forever? Or do I have the wrong info on Pocket? I use the Unsorted folder that FF defaults
to for what you suggested.

Not connected to bookmarks, but I like Scrapbook. It's designed to be
a tool for organizing online research, but it functions pretty well as
a simple reading list also.

Ron's method works if you have just your desktop browser.

Pocket would probably store the expiring pages forever, not link to them
like bookmarks.

Save Page As > Web page, complete to a folder on your HD would suffice
for those pages that might expire, but you couldn't come back to it in
one place, on any device.

That is not correct. I only use Firefox on my computer, but I use
Pocket everywhere. I've got the app on my iPad, my iPhone, and I have
it bookmarked in Chrome on the workstation at work (for some reason,
the IT bosses forbid Firefox and only allow IE and Chrome).

I frequently save articles to Pocket from my portable devices to read
later on my desktop at home.

Then that is the ONLY place you can "read later" those items. I can
"read later" everywhere.

Just a minute. I was under the impression that when you drag a webpage,
meaning the button on the left of the address, to a bookmarks folder,
what is saved is the link, not the webpage. Then deleting the entry
deletes the link. Clicking the page bookmark does not bring it up when
you are not connected to the Internet.

To save a webpage you have to right-click in the webpage, select "Save
Page As...", select location to save, and press Save. Now, if the folder
when it is saved is bookmarked, you can of course open the folder, click
on the saved webpage and open it; but there is no option to delete it
from inside the browser. You have to open the folder in the Windows
Explorer and delete from there, and then Empty the Trash.

Or am I missing something?

Hmm... It says:

"Add-on for quick bookmarking.
Allows to add or remove links in one click to read it later."

It's talking about links. It does not say anything about saving the
webpage itself to read offline. Or can it do it?

I am (almost) always connected to the internet. I haven't had to use
dialup in 14 years. When my computer is on, it's online.

The only time I do not have internet access is if I'm in an area
without both cellular and wifi access.

Same thing, conceptually. By saving it to your desktop, then your
desktop is the only place you can access that item. By saving to
Pocket (or Instapaper, or whatever online) you can access it from
anywhere.

Nope! The Pocket app downloads the content to the portable device for
offline reading.

I don't know about you Windows users, but all I had to do was move the
Pocket button to Customize > Additional Tools and Features, to remove
the button and both instances of "View Pocket List".

gone through Ffox 38.0.5 in beta form and now 39 beta and haven't seen

Pocket for Firefox is a part of Firefox for American, German, Japanese,
Russian and Spanish users.

If you are one of that group of users, and don't see it, look in the
Menu button, or Customize.

It is on the Navigation bar by default in my 39.0b3.

It's a little bit buggy I think; the pocket menu item in Bookmarks /I
think/ is supposed to appear only when there is something in the pocket,
but appears there anyway when pocket is first enabled. I personally
don't mind mucking in userChrome, I love the fact that I can do this -
my Bookmarks menu for instance contains ONLY bookmarks, nothing else; I
can access what I hide some other way so I don't want it cluttering the
bookmarks menu. Ain't Firefox great?

While I have you here Walt: You've seen me complaining about Aurora a
few times. Well, I recently upgraded from v24 to v38, and have had
experience with it, and to tell you the truth you were right, it's an ok
interface - I still use Classic Theme Restorer, but I wouldn't die if it
wasn't around. The new "one shot" search menu however, is a horror, lol.

I added the code in the Stylish User Styles, restarted FF, but the line
"View Pocket List" is still there...

I am wondering what will happen if I toggle:

browser.pocket.useLocaleList

to false, along with the other 2 true/false pocket keys that I've
toggled. And then there is the browser.uiCostumization.state that
contains this long string:

Maybe I should edit this string?

Thanks. Scrapbook does what I need. I only wish they would add a 1-click
button for "Save Page > Root Folder", it would be very helpful.

Also, in the webpage:

http://help.getpocket.com/customer/portal/articles/1999137-how-to-disable-pocket-for-firefox

it says that you can

Right-click (or control-click) on the Pocket button in your Firefox
Toolbar or Menu
Select Remove from Toolbar or Remove from Menu

Well, I had dragged the Pocket button to the Customize list. Now I
consider putting it back on the toolbar to select Remove from Menu
first, but I can't find it there!

Strange, works fine for me, but I dont use Stylish for userChrome, only
for userContent.

Doesn't like like that would enable/disable pocket...

Wow, now that's a long string! Maybe it's a cache of xulstore.json?

Probably because you disabled it with the 2 config settings. If you want
it back re-enable it first.

Well, I tried it and it worked! The line in the Bookmarks drop-down menu
went away. They should have included this instruction in their
directions on removing pocket.

Thanks,
