By going to:

Tools >> Add-Ons >> Extensions

Now look for something like this:

Etensions Removal

Hope this helps.

Assuming you are looking at the browser extensions page when you
say there is no "remove" button, I think that happens if the extension
is installed in such a way that the extension cannot be removed by the
process.

On Unix, I see this with globally installed extensions (eg, (eg
"Ubuntu Modifications" in /usr/share/mozilla/extensions/) that require
root access to remove. I just disable and ignore.

just learned today that extension isn't in /usr/lib/firefox-addons/

Did you not read ftr's words "there is no remove button"?

Copernic appears to be a program and will have to be removed like other programs.

If you go to Help, Troubleshooting Information, about Plugins (Middle
of first block) you will see the path to the folder where the Plugin
resides.

While I have never done it, if you go to that directory and rename the
plugin I believe this will remove the plug in from Firefox.

I thought your idea did the trick, but ...

I don't want to uninstall Copernic as I use it as a desktop search
engine but there is no sense to retain their FF extension that is not
up-to-date since some time. So I looked how to uninstall the extension
and continue with CDS as a search engine.

I found the place where the extensions are stored but I have 7
extensions with a folder (?) name like
{b9aa91db-385d-4c69-8a2f-96790aa9405b} in the about:support page, but
only 6 in the profile folder.

Surprise.

What harm would be done if you remove the program from your system,
check to confirm that it is removed from Firefox, reinstall the program,
and don't enable the Indexation of Browser Bookmarks and History.

I don't know about Copernic but a program like Adobe Reader has two
parts. One is the standalone program in the Program file (86) folder
and the other is the plugin that works in Firefox and other browsers.
In my experience the plugin is usually of the format np*****.dll

You should be able to remove/rename the np******.dll and it should not
affect the standalone program.

Remember there is a difference between extension addons and plugin addons.

IN Linux if you go into
/.mozilla/firefox/xxxx.default/extensions and remove an
extensions .xpi file then that extension is removed from
Firefox. Should be the same in Windows.

The OP did not make it clear that he understood the difference between
extensions and plugins. extension usually have the XPI ending.

I have assumed he meant Plugins in my attempts to help him resolve his
problem

Yes but the extension folder has no plugins in it and you
clearly said extensions would not be affected.
You can go to about:plugins to find where a certain plugin
is stored then go there and delete it.

Congratulations.
You do realize scanning outgoing messages is nonsense?

And the proper sig delimiter is dash-dash-space.

Who has written such a disinformation :

> Copernic Desktop Search is a sever browser hijacker virus that pretends to be a useful search engine that could provides information for users. However, it keeps annoying users’ online activities. Usually speaking, Copernic Desktop Search is bundled with free programs on the Internet. When users download or update programs from the Internet, it is installed together. Malicious web sites such as pornographic ones will contain this kind of virus. Spam email attachments is a powerful distribution way to spread computer infections. So users have to be careful when surfing the Internet.

I use CDS since several years. The wikipedia page at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copernic_Desktop_Search says nothing of a
hidden virus in CDS.

My Panda AV Pro 2016 does not warn of any CDS virus.

So how is it possible that you write such a "text" ???

So, did you try my suggestion,
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/mozilla.support.firefox/qCF_mXCky74/sPi-WENsLAAJ>
or don't really want support?

It might not be a virus, but it is malware. Your problem is with
terminology. Strictly speaking, it is not a virus.

Did you go to the CS website ? How can I use a malware with having
changed AV programs several times in recent years, exchanging with the
team, and not seeing that it is malware ??

Any proofs from the web that Copernic Desktop Research is malware ?
Which websites ?
