I just started using FireFox. I have created a profile for me, in
addition to the default profile. I would like FireFox to always launch
into thte default every time, without running the profile manager, even
if I last used my own profile.
More importanly, I want to password protect my profile, so that I can
use auto-complete, password manager, etc and not have others see what I
have done.
Any help gratefully received.
You can password-protect a username (the name under which you log in to the
system): your profile is private to your login name. Depending on which OS you
are using and how its security is enforced, you may or may not restrict
access, even read access, of others to your private files. Note, however, that
on most systems the superuser (the most privileged sysadmin) can read anything
if he knows (or can determine) the path and filename. The only way to hide
from your boss (or from your wife) the fact that you browse porn ;-) is to
disable the disk cache completely.
Best regards,
Tony.
most probably not possible

For that first (less important question) you can create separate
desktop and/or Quick Launch icons. As you know If you simply restart Firefox
such as updating extensions, you would come back up in the same
profile.
But once you've exited Firefox, you can restart with a profile
of your choice, even if you have checked "Don't ask at startup".
So for you, you might create a profile that brings up the default
profile as one of the first few (visible) icons on the Quick Launch.
In properties showing, note profile name is case sensitive.
Name under General, and
Shortcut under Shortcut tab.
to bring up a specific profile i.e. Default
Firefox Default Profile
firefox.exe -p "Default"
I don't have the above, so my first one (one of the first 3)
is the one that appears on the status bar. The rest are
seen only on the Quick Launch "drop down".
brings up the last used profile, if you have chosen
Mozilla Firefox (mine actually shows 0.4 Mozilla Firefox)
firefox.exe -p
for a choice of profile
Firefox -profile (CHOICE OF PROFILES)
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p
or simply firefox.exe -p
to bring up Firefox in Safe Mode
Firefox -safe-mode
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
to bring up default profile in File Manager
Firefox Profile q78668wt.Default
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\q78668wt.Default"
For instance for myself all of the above are on my Quick Launch
only the for the last used is directly visible as one of the first three
the others are all in the launch page "drop down".

Your two questions don't appear to be very related, and it makes it
hard for people to find answers in archived postings if the subject does
not match the question. Asking multiple questions will often delay or
result in not getting all of your questions answered. But now that
both parts are answered maybe you will find that do need more information
that ties the two together.
