I've been using Powermarks (Kaylon) as a bookmark search
utility through all of FF 2x and simply upgrading it by
force via nightly tester tools.

Well, version 3 isn't being "forced" anymore and the makers
of Powermarks have closed down any support for the program.

I am looking for a good bookmark search utility. I have a
lot of bookmarks and figuring out which folder I put
something in when I can only remember a keyword or two, is
practically impossible.

Can someone recommend a bookmark search add-on or utility of
some kind?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Louise,
What version of Firefox are you using, sounds like you are using
Firefox 2 in which case
Enhanced Bookmark Search (EBS)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/494/

Firefox 3 has some built-in features but they are not as good.
It would be nice if the author of EBS can and would update the
extension to work in Fx3.,

HTH,
David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site
Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm

You should investigate the searching abilities of FF3. You can search
on just about anything with the sqlite extension.

miTaggedMarks (www.mitaggedmarks.com) is an alternative to Powermarks.
It also uses keywords/tags instead of folders to organize the
bookmarks.
It also has a very fast find-as-you-type function that can search in
all bookmarks.
AFAIR it can even import the bookmarks from Powermarks including the
keywords.

This is an interesting program and might be worth
purchasing. The only thing that comes close to Powermarks.

At first glance/use, however, it seems to be trying to do so
many things that it is very confusing. It would be great if
they created a video tutorial.

However, at the moment I've got it on a trial version and
maybe I'll figure out all the extras and maybe I'll just use
its more basic functions.

For those who want to back up their bookmarks onto a server,
this program does not do what Powermarks did and it doesn't
seem that would be possible.
