After weeks of frustration (saving the servlet as a pdf file then
clicking on the saved file), I have finally found a permanent solution
in Firefox 3 to the issue of "LabelGenerationServlet" trying to
download your label rather than sending it to the printer:

In Firefox, go to "Tools/Options" then click on "Applications." Next
type "pdf" into the Search bar. Then, in the "Content-Type" column,
select "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Document" and in the "action" column next to
it, click on the drop-down menu and uncheck "Save File" and instead
select "Use [your preferred pdf viewer, e.g, Foxit]. Then click "OK."

Next, return to the USPS.com site, sign in, go to "Click-N-Ship" and
select "Print Labels," from the top menu. Try printing a test label
and it should now behave normally: opening your pdf viewer with your
label and then opening the print menu (check your setup so that it is
set to print to a PS print driver), allowing you to click OK, and
voila! Good luck.

Let me know if you have success too!

Andrew,

Thanks so much for the fix!!! A long time ago, I was able to print
these click and ship labels off of Firefox and IE, then IE...and then
neither! I wailed in agony as my google searches showed confused
bloggers from 2005 lamenting about their USPS click and ship problems,
with no solution or clue to be found. I am in charge of shipping here
at my company, and though we use FEDEX/BAX primarily, I do ship out a
lot of small items via USPS international due to the costs savings. I
just couldn't figure it out. I would click print my labels, then it
would pretend it was processing, and no adobe pop up!! >: o I made a
futile last charge by uninstalling/reinstalling Acrobat Reader, which
did nothing, except give me a couple of minutes of hope that this
would bring the Label popup back. So here I was today, trying to use
click and ship at my computer (I had to create the label and have a
coworker print out from his computer for the last several months), and
it did not work, which frankly I expected at this point. I browsed
around the USPS help section to see if I could find a solution, which
I could not. So I had another tab opened here in firefox, which was
the "email usps" page. But for some reason I decided to Google once
again, and found your lonesome post...sometimes I skip past
discussions with only one posts, because I assume it is the original
poster asking for help, not giving advice. But yet again, I was drawn
to visit your post. I read your post, then thought to myself "Noway,
it can't be that simple." (simple as in requiring a few steps, not
simple as in being to figure all that out by yourself) I gave it a
try. Hit tools, then options, applications. When I typed pdf in the
search bar, all the files dissapeared. Oh no, I didn't even finish
the steps and it didn't work. So I just cleared the search bar, and
picked out the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Document like you said, and upon
going to the drop menu, noticed it was set to "always ask upon". I
changed it to open up with Acrobat Reader, hit ok, then furiously
opened a new tab to USPS and logged into my account. I found the
print sample label link after a bit of snooping (Never printed sample
labels before unless I was right before trying to create a real
label), then clicked the link. I saw the Firefox download box for a
brief second or two, and then glory. The adobe popup box was there in
clear sight with the shipping labels contained within. I right-
clicked the inside of the box and hit print, flew through the pre-
print screen, and saw my beloved long lost (but never forgotten)
labels appear from the printer. I cannot thank you enough, this has
really made my day and I am sure that many people will be helped by
your find. : )

This is what is annoying about Google Group posters.

Responding to an over 5 year old post.

Xposted and followup set to m.general
