WinXP Pro SP2 - FF3.5.6 - No Script 1.9.9.30 - Google Tool Bar
6.1.20091119W

The 'Suggested Searches' feature does not work in the Google Tool Bar
with the 'No Script' Add-on enabled. Disable NS and SS works as
advertised.

Interestingly, the 'Suggested Searches' feature does work in the
search box in the FF tool bar when No Script is enabled. Google is the
default search engine in that box.

I saw someplace where the powers-that-be claimed that this problem was
fixed. It isn't, there's a conflict someplace, so there's still work
to be done. Perhaps the claimed fix was only for the search box in
the FF tool bar?

All affected apps are current and updated.

Wonder if those 'best minds' are working on this?

So, you add an extension, and it prevents a feature from working, and
now you want that fixed? Just disable NoScript. Simple solution. No
software can function in all environments.

The built in Firefox and other browsers and other search engines offer
suggestions. In the Firefox search bar it is controlled by
right-cliick on the search bar and check/uncheck Show suggestions.

I guess the biggest question is why Teflon wants to use the Google toolbar.
There are a lot of extensions that indicate in descriptions or comments
to turn off Noscript just from what I see in a Google search for "Noscript".

Obviously the other question is why the need to turn off JavaScript.

Depends on what you want from the Google toolbar, I think that may be
the only place to get page rank from Google or Alexis, but I'd prefer
the builtin search bar that you can add to yourself with an extension
from almost any search form, or create a keyword bookmark directly
from Firefox., Does anybody pay attention to TOS statements when
they install something.

Google itself uses JavaScript links, redirections, you name it Google
will do it.

I've gotten the function that I've needed from "Adblock Plus",
I don't block JavaScript (except for first 3 of 5 types in the
Tools -> Options -> Content -> Advanced.
I change depending on what happening on sites, and if I can't
run a bookmarklet to fix, or it's happening too often.

There are
counter versions to "NoScript" one of them provides a whitelist, the other a
blacklist. One of those is "YesScript" the other is "SomeScript"

Looks like SomeScript was abandoned shortly after starting
but you can pick up an old version

I'd be more inclined to get rid of the Google toolbar, but that's me.

Google Toolbar is not allowed on my systems. In fact, NO third party
toolbars are allowed on my systems. They usually take up a lot of
screen space, defy customization, cause conflicts, take up ram, and
often contain 'features' I would rather not have around.
If I want to use Google, I click on the www.google.com bookmark, and do
my searching.

This is off-topic, but do you realize that support for XP SP2 will end
in a few months? Support for SP3 will end on April 8 2014.

Agreed. I learned a long time ago that third party toolbars (including
Google, which I tried for awhile) tend to cause more problems than
they're worth.

I just use the built-in search bar - saving a step.

If I want to use Google, then I use Scroogle. I simply type 'scr
[keyword]' in my Navigation Toolbar. :-)

Thanks for your suggestion, Ron, but I did not just add NoScript, been
running it AND the Google Tool Bar successfully on the previous
version of FF prior to just switching to 3.5. With that switch, the
aforementioned blockage occurred. Checked the FF forum and there was
a post that the GTB/NS conflict had been resolved. Just commenting on
that post.

I personally like the Google Tool Bar. I also like NoScripts. Held
off switching to FF 3.5 until I thought it would be safe, guess I was
still early. Have the same reservations for SP3, IE8 and WMP11.

Thanks to all who responded for your opinions, observations,
critiques, suggestions, pointers and candor.

Have you tried uninstalling, and then installing both the Google
Toolbar, and NoScript? It may be there is some initialization that
needs to be done with the new version.

Why do you like the Google Toolbar, does if provide anything you
don't have otherwise. Do you still have normal search bar.
You can move a search bar to the menu bar providing more room
for the search bar and for the location bar..

No I haven't, but that's a good suggestion, I will give it a try.
Thanks.
