Hi,

Is there any place on mozilla's site where i can download firefox
2.0.x (whichever is the last version)? The .exe is available at some
other sites but i would rather download from mozilla.

The download link in FF2.0 release notes takes me to FF4.0 download.

Try this one:
<ftp://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/>.
Firefox 2.0.0.20 should be the last version of the 2.0.x line.

For the sake of completeness, I’ll mention that it is no longer updated [1].

Regards

Michael

Why do you want version 2.0?

People have their motivations or perhaps too fixated to legacies :)

Maybe it simply does what they want, and have no need for newer
abilities. :-)

New versions have much more than just new abilities. They also have
hundreds of minor (and major) bug fixes, and security enhancements.
Older releases may be more prone to allowing security exploits, crashes,
and other problems, including incompatibility with newer plugins, and
extensions/themes.

No disagreements there from me. But often those will not be readily
noticeable to a user, and may simply be something a user may not want.
I suppose it's also possible a newer, fixed version may not work well
with software the user has. Possibly, the user may also have no use for
newer plugins as well.

I sometimes think that users who like to be up with the latest version
of "whatever" often fail to recognize not everyone needs or wants the
new whiz bang features. For instance, if you all you need is to write
papers for a college class, Word 6 will probably work just as well as
Word 2010, unless you've got a rigid educational administration that
forces you to use something unnecessary.

If someone wants to keep the older version, problems and all, it's OK
with me. We sometimes forget that "PC" means "personal computer", so if
a user wants his PC to be his way, more power to the user. The user
then takes on the responsibility of dealing with any issues that come up.

Of course, there is the advantage that after something gets old enough,
who's writing viruses for it anyway? A Win98 computer works great for
your kids to do their homework with using MS Office 97. Plus, being
that old, it will be harder for the kids to get on the websites the
parents don't want them on! LOL

Guys, Please stop hijacking this thread. I asked the original poster
Vinod why he was looking for version 2, and he hasn't yet answered.
Let's keep the focus on helping users.

I have some quite old software, but not any that accesses the internet.
There are altogether too many people out there looking for ways to
invade your computer for nefarious purposes. Look on Google for all the
known exploits that use Word scripts for malware.
Using old software on the internet isn't a good idea because some of
those old virus/worms are still loose in the 'wild'. If you choose to
do this, please make sure you keep, at least, your AV and Firewall
software current.
