The lower windows regular taskbar shows the bands for all the open windows, and so it shows the a band for ff. The ff also has the name/ title/ something of the current page open in the current tab.

Now, say, I am visiting something in privacy that I don't want people to see, and someone comes in and I quickly minimize the ff window. Then, this ff band in task bar is very much showing the name of the open page.

Is there any setting that I can make ff not to display these site names in the band at task bar?

The other option is to use minimize to tray add on so that when minimized, the ff band doesn't appear in taskbar. But there are some problems with minimize-to-tray that it opens a tray entry for each and every instance of ff window open, and often the right click menu is not appearing, and if I open a window and give file-exit, all ff windows close. So I have stopped using this add on, though very useful.

Firefox and Windows both have taskbars, so not sure what you mean by bands.
Also don't know what Firefox extension you are saying that you don’t use anymore
but file-exit would close all of Firefox and File-> Exit is the proper way to close Firefox.

To close a window you click on the "X" in the upper right corner of the Window.

To close a Tab use the "x" just below the the close Window (or the "x" on the tab if
using default) or use Ctrl+W. To reopen the last closed tab use Ctrl+Shift+T.
(or recently closed tabs in the History menu, or use History sidebar sorted by last visited)
Wouldn't closing the tab and reopening the last tab work.

To hide the Windows taskbar: Right click on an empty space on the Windows taskbar
such as to the left of the Windows start button, click on properties, activate
"Auto-hide the taskbar". To view the Windows taskbar, move the cursor through the
bottom of the window. To undo reverse the setting in properties.

If you mess up some of the settings, WinKey+D is a toggle to display desktop,
also you might have to move cursor through bottom of window to see windows taskbar.

Or as a bookmarklet
http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/bb/index.php?topic=10972.0

give it a keyword shortcut of "tab-rename:"
Or install on the Bookmarks Toolbar and give it a name of "R"
It will change the title on the Title bar, Windows taskbar, and
extensions that extract the title such as CopyURL+, Copy All Urls,
to one that you enter,
but will not change the favicon for the tab.

Set the task bar to auto-hide?

wow, that's useful.

I am exploring it, can't go through renaming each tab. Is it possible to just have "firefox" written with ff icon on all tabs?

thanks.
