First, FF is not an email reader. I'm presuming you're sending the
message using the Yahoo Mail web interface. Is this correct? If so,
then complain to Yahoo. Firefox has nothing to do with that.

bugs they can't fix, features?
Works fine here. Are you using the new beta interface, or the old Yahoo
Mail interface?

Easy answer but the quoted sentence makes one wonder:-((

Can you check a couple of things ?
1. Try this test: Save the Word doc in .rtf format,
rename the .rtf file to change the extension to .doc,
and then attach the file through Yahoo mail/Firefox.
Q: Is this document readable to the recipient?
The reason for the question is that .doc files are
internally binary files, while .rtf files are internally
text files. I am wondering whether your Firefox is
uploading .doc files in a way that works with text files
but not binary files.
2. In Firefox, at
Tools -> Options -> Downloads -> View and Edit Actions
is the .doc extension listed?
3. In your Firefox user profile directory
(see http://www.holgermetzger.de/pdl.html)
there is a file mimeTypes.rdf
Open this file in a plain text editor and look for a part
about fileExtensions="doc". If you find it, it will look
something like this
| <RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:application/msword"
| NC:value="application/msword"
| NC:editable="true"
| NC:fileExtensions="doc"
| NC:description="Microsoft Word Document">
Where the example above shows the text "application/msword"
(in two places), what do the corresponding places show in
your Firefox's mimeTypes.rdf ?
