Hello.

Is it me or does Firefox's history only shows up to seven/7 days by
default? I thought it was way more than that.

Thank you in advance. :)

Interesting. Is a month the longest it can go?

I have no idea. I think I cleared history for that version recently.

I clear history and cache when I quit my production version. Which is
several times a day.

There is no default amount of time. It's based on your system specs,
like memory. If this just started happening to you, and you haven't
changed your computer, maybe there's a third-party program clearing
data...or maybe it cleared your history a week ago.

Mine has that, and then January, Dec 2013, Nov 2013, ..., Sep 2013,
Older than 6 months. My oldest entry is three days short of 10 months;
coincidentally, there were three months with fewer than 31 days over
that time-frame, since 25-Apr-2013.

I have from today 21/2/2014 back to and including September 2013, after
that I have a mass of previous history all in an Older than 6 months
folder.

All the way back to the last time I emptied the History. (I think around
May 2013 or thereabouts).

Additionally, things like CCleaner are not permitted to Clean/remove
browser history here.

Maybe at some time in the past, and you've forgotten it, you set something
in Options- Privacy- History.

There is a limit on the number of pages kept, not on length of time.

Interesting. What are the limits?

My history goes back to 11/17/2012 which is the day I first installed Fx
on this then brand new, just out of the box Windows 8 Pro computer. On
my XP Pro computer, history goes back about 4 years.

Your hardware determines how far back history goes. It's supposed to be
an average of 2-3 years but could be considerably less on an older
machine with not much RAM or space on the C drive.

Sadly, your problem may be a blessing in disguise. None of us will be
able to keep history or bookmarks when Mozilla implements User
Personalization Tracking (that has sort of been overlooked in a lot of
the commentary in the midst of the controversy over the tile adverts but
it goes hand in hand with the tile adverts and is far more ominous and
against every principle Mozilla has claimed to stand for regarding
privacy, open source, etc). It looks like Opera's removing of bookmarks
in the "new" Opera was a portent for Fx users.

UP, if it's ever implemented, will be opt-in. Why wouldn't any of us
still be able to keep history and bookmarks?

Since this is about the future of Firefox, not about Fx support, I'm
crossposting and setting followups to mozilla.general.

I think it might depend on how much RAM is installed, or the size of the
hard drive. You can see that in about:config. Search for history.

If Opera removed bookmarks, how are people supposed to save pages that
they want to revisit? That sounds plain crazy!

It would be crazy, but Opera hasn't done it and isn't going to.

[crossposted, followup set to mozilla.general]

I have some history entries that go back to 2010. Lots of disk space,
and not a lot of bookmarks.
Frankly, a browser with no bookmarks would be way too much trouble to
use to bother with.
