It looks like SMIL may be making a comeback for digital signage and the
emerging HDTV networking platforms.

I am going to be writing some SMIL code and trying to learn how to view
results in Firefox and playback as a "slideshow." I don't have time to take
on another application development endeavor and thought Firefox had
distinguished itself by supporting standards but what's with this one?

All I've been able to find and download is a copy of Ambulant Player
http://ambulantplayer.org and grateful they make it available free after all
these years.

There are some signs that SMIL is about to make a come back because it is
being used by digital signage media player hardware devices branded by
ViewSonic from a manufacturer called IAdea. For this type of application
SMIL can be very useful but I would prefer to use a browser to view SMIL
presentations myself.
