extensions versus addons

In FF I see two seperate tabs under Tools-->Addons for "Extensions" and
"Addons"

What is the real difference between the two?

Extensions, Themes, and Plugins are all considered Add-ons.

I assume you're referring to the " *Get* Add-ons " tab.
"Get Add-ons" is a place to browse the add-ons website from within the
Add-ons window, and install them in Firefox.
