This is something I was able to do in Internet Explorer, but can't quite
figure out how to do in Firefox 1.5.0.4.

In IE, I could drag a file to the Links bar, where it would be an icon just
like all the other shortcuts. If I clicked on that icon, it would open up a
file (it could be a word .doc, a macro, an executable .exe, whatever.) It
was a VERY convenient way of opening things while staying in the browser.

When I try doing this in Firefox - when I drag a file to the Bookmarks
Toolbar, it doesn't run.

Any way to do this in FireFox?

bookmarks -> manage bookmarks -> new bookmakrs -> Then write the
location for the file. On Linux that could be for example:
file:///home/aggro/Desktop/example.doc

Thanks for the speedy reply - that worked. Mostly.

I wanted to run a macro from Macro Express that would open the Find Toolbar
with just a click on the Bookmark toolbar. So I created a Bookmark that
pointed to the Macro Express .mxe file and put it on the Bookmarks toolbar.

When I click on this icon, it opens up a dialog box asking me to cinfirm
that Firefox should open this file with Macro Express. I hit Okay, and then
the macro runs. Is there some way to get Firefox to remember to open this
file every time with Macro Express so I can eliminate that step?

Or, even easier, is there some other way for me to get an icon on the
Firefox toolbar that will execute Control-F and open the Find Toolbar
without my having to type the keystrokes?

Thanks in advance,

tw

I just found an easier solution. FireFoxMenuButtons 1.5.0 - it gives a lot
more choices for menu buttons, one of which is Find, which opens the Find
toolbar with one click of the mouse.

But I'd still like to figure out how to get Firefox to recognize Macro
Express macros.

generate the following:? :

FF has its own "File-type associations" list, much the same as
WinExplorer and the several MediaPlayers.. you can "set" various
filetypes to open in FF.

FIND a file you want to open in FF
RIGHT click on it
select OPEN
browse to Firefox.exe

the rest ic the normal action to open files...

In FF1.0.7 you will find the "File-type associations" list under:

Tools>>Options>>Downloads [File-Types]

wher the list can also be edited!
Dunno where to look in FF 1.0.4
