After I installed ghostery, a little blue ghost appeared in my status
bar (bottom left of window; I have Status-4-Evar). When I clicked on
that ghost (I _think_ there was another one, maybe to the left of the
URL window), I got a popup window showing all the ads, trackers, and
widgets the currently-loaded page is using, and a slide switch for each
one, showing whether I'd barred them or not wnd letting me change any
one if I wanted.

This ghost is no longer present (nor anywhere else on screen AFAICS).
Anyone know how I can access that screen, or where the gonk has gone?

This was the case with FF 22 (and XP SP3); I've just checked for update
and moved to 23, and the gonk is still missing.

(When a page loads, I still get briefly at the top right a list of such
things, with the ones I've deselected shown with a line through. So
ghostery is still working fine - I just miss the config. screen for it.)

Radio 4 is one of the reasons being British is good. It's not a subset of
Britain - it's almost as if Britain is a subset of Radio 4. - Stephen Fry, in
Radio Times, 7-13 June, 2003.

I noticed that, too, and simply went to their site
(https://www.ghostery.com/) and reinstalled it after I also noticed that
the Options button in Add-ons had disappeared as well.

All is good now, it's back, in my case, the Navigation bar, where I like it.

P.S. Running Win8Pro and FF 23.

Ghostery just recently "upgraded" their little application --- and
messed it up badly. They are telling everyone who complains to go back
to their earlier version until they clear the mess up.

My icon and all the functionality disappeared just like yours and I went
to the Ghostery forum and read a couple of rather angry posts. Their
sysadmin responded with the info I just gave you.

Hmm. Will doing that (though I'm not sure how I'd do it!) - or just
reinstalling, as Revvie Quar suggested - keep all my ghostery settings?

Probably not. I have found that Ghostery is now very reliable in
keeping your settings. Each time the database is updated, they end up
unchecking a lot of the items that I have checked. Despite the setting
"Mark all updates as checked by default", they don't get checked and you
have to laboriously page through hundreds of entries to see what changed.

What I usually do is click the top box that makes ALL entries checked
and then when a page balks loading, or something else strange happens, I
check to see what is blocked and choose to unblock it. I suppose it is
better to block all and unblock what want rather than block stuff as you
find it.

It probably is, though I do it the other way round.

(I guessed you might have meant that.) Thanks for your input.

Reinstalling now. (I went to their page and saw a green circle which
said "installed [tick]", but clicking on it seems to be doing a
reinstall anyway. Ah yes, the gonk is back.) Hmm, when I get to the
Blocking page in the wizard, it's showing "x trackers (y blocked)" for
each of the categories: is that some sort of default, or _has_ it
remembered my settings?

And in the end, nothing will really change. France is too used to being

The trouble is, unless you remember what the previous 'x trackers - y
blocked' values were, then if they added a few more 'x' and your 'y'
changed, would you know?

I have found that sometimes on an update, I have to re-set check marks
and scan down the looooong lists to find new boxes to check. It isn't a
big deal, but just takes time to perform this check.
