playing swf files

Hello,

After updating to firefox 1.5.0.6 I can nolonger play flash files from my
pc. I have a couple of swf files I have downloaded from the internet and I
was able to view them by right clicking on the swf file, open with firefox
and it played. Now when follow these steps, I get a prompt to use the
webservice to find the appropriate program or select the program from a
list. Yes the flash player is installed. Firefox plays flash files on
websites fine. It is only when I try to run a flash file from my PC do I
have a problem. about:plugins shows:
Shockwave Flash
File name: npswf32.dll
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r16
MIME Type Description
Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie swf
Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie spl
Yes

Is firefox broken, flash player broken, or my PC broken? My OS is windows
xp sp2 plus all hotfixes.

in my computer those two entries are as below:

application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash
application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie

I think you should goto Tools>options>Content. Click on 'Manage' under "file
Type' menu.
Change application for 'application/x-shockwave-flash' from 'Adobe Flash movie
' to 'Shockwave Flash'

While your suggestion is close this is what worked for me. In firefox
Tools, Options, Downloads, view and edit actions, change the swf extention
to open with the shockwave flash player and not firefox.
