I've downloaded programs from myplaycity.com before, and they always
allowed me the option to change my default homepage, search engine,
etc. to their own website. I have always declined.

It's always been handy for me to do a search directly from the address
bar (eg, typing a word into the address bar instead of
"www.whatever.com"), and the search was done by google. Now, when I
enter a search term into the address bar, it is searched on by the D&#
($ myplaycity search page("powered by google") instead of searching
directly on google.com. (NOTE: I'm not talking about the search
window at the top right corner of the screen).

I've tried to change this several ways:
1. I've deleted the "myplaycity" toolbar with add-ons management
2. I've gone to about:config and deleted the only single instance of
the phrase myplaycity
3. I've looked in Tools/Options for a way to change this, but no
success

When I do a search from th eactual search window at the top right of
the screen, it is searched normally by google, without the myplaycity
crap.

What's going on and how can I change this?

Thanks!!

Type about:config into location bar
filter: myplaycity.com

If you get a dumb message about tampering with about:config
variables you know what to do, but don't forget the check box.

I expect you will find that it is keyword.URL
that was changed, right click and use reset, which will change it back to
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

and to use it you would have probably unchanged default value
keyword.enabled true

To change your homepage to whatever you want the easiest is
to open the page you want as the only webpage open then
Tools --> Options --> Main --> ...
When Firefox starts --> Use Current page
which will fill in your home page(s) for you,.

FWIW, I completely disable search from the location bar with
http://127.0.0.1/search?xyz=%s
