If we refresh that page (to reload from site), that history is gone.
Is there a way that we can cancel this "refresh"-ing of the page and
revert the pre-refresh version (from cache, if it there) so that the
previous-next pages history becomes available again?

I am assuming you are referring to the 'Back' & 'Forward' buttons on the
FF Navigation toolbar.

Working on the above assumption, I have not seen that behavior before,
in FF2, or now, with FF3.
I just ran a quick test with FF3, to verify my recollection.
I opened the Google home page, www.google.com, then clicked on the
'Images' link, then the 'Maps' link.
Then I clicked 'Back', leaving me at the 'Images' page. The Back &
Forward buttons were now both green, indicating a history for both. I
then tried refreshing the page, using all the methods available: F5,
Ctrl+R, Ctrl+F5, Ctrl+Shift+R, Reload button, & Shift+Reload button.
All methods retained the history. If I clicked 'Forward', it took me to
the 'Maps' page. If I clicked 'Back' (while on the 'Images' page), it
took be back to the home page.
Have you tried it in FF safe-mode, to rule out a problem with extensions?

Yeah, that is also happening.
I think if the page has changed in between the two loadings (before
refreshing), then "Next" history is gone. The page you tried didn't
change in between so it retained all the history. Wise touch.
Could you try that with some forum post page where regular postings
would change the content of page. or may be some news or live scores page.
