hi, for various reasons I would like to have more than one firefox
process running simultaneously. I tried to run firefox portable and
spawn a second process, however I get this:

possible to achieve what I am after?

do you really want another instance of the FF exe or just another
window? If just another window, ctrl-n will open another (more or less)
independent window.

create a .bat file and put this code within it :
set MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1
firefox.exe -profile "2nd-profile-name"

usage : start firefox ( not from .bat ) with 1st profile , then double
click on .bat file to run 2nd process of firefox with 2nd profile

As far I know it will work on 98 also .
Check this codes:

@echo off
set MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1
start "" "~path-to-program-folder~\firefox.exe" -p "profile-name"
set MOZ_NO_REMOTE=0

or

firefox.exe -no-remote [-P profilename]

well, whadya know, it works!!!! :-D I managed to get 2 SeaMonkey's
running with a different profile each. Interesting. I wonder if I can
get three running. I'll have to do some testing. I'll have to keep
this in mind.

You know Nir, you don't get much recognition here. Next to Lee, you're
the only one who tries to answer just about every post. And you go out
of your way to help those posters. You provide more than enough
information. I for one thank you. Further, there was one posting,
somewhere, where they suggested you become one of the Mozilla Champions.
I for one would support that.

Thanks Nir for ALL your help, and you have a Happy New Year.

Well, you've lost my respect. After reading this:

I see you're going to become one of two Geckos Spam Mooses.

the suggestor was Herb, about 3 months ago...
1) for certain, Nir has *some* very good suggestions and_
2) He certainly locates an amazing number of links to solutions
3) he -also- most certainly spends an enormous length ot time on the
newsgroups - something that is very lacking in ChrisI's devotion to
these groups!

BUT

I would not have supported Herb's suggestion (anyway, no-one would have
asked) for the following reasons:

1) Nir's command of the english language - though very good - often
lacks clarity and definition. Sometimes I have to puzzle-out just what
it is that he is trying to state, in some cases I even gave up reading
his post!!

2) Nir is an avid "alpha + beta* user so that his replies sometimes (in
fact, bordering on "often") do not reflect the usage of current
releases. It is *imperative* that official support (which would be
Nir's status, in the eyes of Joe Blogg-user) comes from people actually
*USING* current market releases!
(This should be a Mozilla-requirement of the "Champ-Support" people)

3) A lot of Nir's support seems to be a "standard reply to anything" -
meaning that, whatever the problem in the OP, "New Profile" or "Safe
Mode" is the first thing suggested... whereas the problem often
describes an obvious error that only requires the OP to change some
UI-settings!

As to the problem of Nir being delegated to the rank of "Censor" - I
wonder just how long it will take before he succumbs to ChrisI's
power-hunger and says "Yes, Chris" to all and everything that comes from
ChrisI's keyboard??
