Out of curiosity, what does that mean by "This might void your
warranty!" when I typed in about:config at the address bar using Ff3?
I've never seen that in Ff2. Maybe I missed something from the EULA.

Any ideas?

If you have to ask it means you better watch out in the config settings!!

Kind of like when you warn someone about the "Shred" button on a complex copier
control panel. Some will freeze looking for the button for several minutes.
Then they either get the joke or ask someone :-)

There is no warranty, but it's the general idea of the message that is
no joke. Too many users fiddle with about:config and end up having
problems with Firefox because of it. It's similar to editing the Windows
registry: When you access about:config, if you don't know exactly which
preference you wish to change, and what value you want to change it to,
you shouldn't be accessing it. :-)

It is a joke. While the source code is covered by a license, there is no
EULA per say, rather a copy of the code license. There is no warenty
that I have ever seen. Another one can be seen by typeing into the nav
bar about:mozilla

If it's "no joke" then they should have been a bit more intellectually
intuitive in the warning message.

I found the message amusing, but then I am weird. Perhaps a better
message would be:

Warning! Incorrectly changing settings here
can render your Firefox unworkable, or
cause confusing results.

If the user actually believes there's a warranty, they shouldn't be
fiddling with about:config; so I think the "intellectual intuitiveness"
is good.

Have you filed a bug? Have you started a discussion about it in the

its there right now...the tick box tricks you as well - it reads "Show

jeez, reg, where did your sense of humor go? Easter eggs have been a

they do. The rest of the warning says:

"Changing these advanced settings can be harmful to the
stability, security, and performance of this application.
You should only continue if you are sure of what you are
doing."

Then it has a "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.

To me, that isn't a very good warning! Its far too
confusing to a newbie.

Typing that in Seamonkey resolves to this:

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced.
But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird.
The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire

reborn with its strength renewed, and the

I get something similar (11:9 rather than 7:15) in FF3, both XP Pro and

The "This might void your warranty!" message is a humorous line,
designed to get users attention that they are tinkering with things
that can make their browser unstable.

And what does "All browsing hx coming up in unending boxes" mean?

It means you might mess things up when you chnage config settings. But
there is no warranty. It's a joke, but I guess you have to have a high
geek quotient to get it.

The instructions for Firefox are very safe. As long as you only
right-click and to reset those preferences, you can't do any harm.

It's not a joke: it's a real warranty. As long as you don't mess with
it, you can get a full refund of every dollar you paid for Firefox at
