Confirm before close last window & exit?

The confirmation to save multiple tabs before exitting is great.

When the user is just closing one tab at a time (e.g. with Ctrl-W), I
was wondering if there was a way to have FF request confirmation
before closing the last tab?

The usage scenario is that I often open tabs as task "subroutines" (or
diversions). When I've found what I need for the diversion, or taken
care of the diversion, I close that tab and resume what I was doing in
the prior tab. Well, if it's the last tab, I don't really want to
close it; I want to think about what the next task is, then use the
last tab for that new task. If I accidentally close that last tab, it
takes a while for FF to fully exit before I can relaunch it.

"AndyHancock"...

It's the Firefox Window that you do not want to close, nothing wrong
with closing the tab, you will get about:blank (blank tab) in it's place.

browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab Boolean (Firefox 3.5 and above)
This preference controls whether closing the last tab, closes the window.
True: Close window when closing last tab (default)
False: Do not close the window when closing last tab (pre Firefox 3.5 behavior)
Note: Changing to False prevents Firefox from closing the window when you
close the last tab such as with Ctrl+W, and subsequently from closing Firefox
itself when closing the last tab of the last Firefox window.

Perhaps you can accomplishing what you want by doing the following:

(Select the tab-window you want to keep) (optional, if you can't
make out the correct tab-window to keep from just it's handle)
Context-click on the tab-windows tab-handle of what you want to keep.
Select 'Close other Tabs' from the context-menu.

I use the tab-mix plus add-on. You can set it to do all that you said,
also it remembers all the tabs you have closed, so you can reopen any
of them easily (with a right-click) if you want 'em back.

Other boring details: YOu can also set it to bring up the last opened
tab when you close a tab, and set it to open a new tab either next to
the current tab or at the far right, etc etc.

Paddo,

Thanks for the referral. I'll consider non-native additions if I
can't realize the functionality using native controls.

Thanks, David. That does exactly what I was looking for.
