In the above, presently it is set as "false". What is this for?

If it is set to true it will generate a bookmarks.html file with your
current bookmarks on exit. Firefox 3 no longer uses the bookmarks.html
file, but it's a nice way to share bookmarks because it will open in any
browser.

if you want firefox to create an automatic 'html' backup 'bookmarks.html'
when you exit firefox;

set *true* = save, set *false* = not save

for other entry usage, log this page;

'SQLite Manager', an easy option to *install*.

*understanding* and *using* takes a little longer. :)

You can make Firefox export bookmarks as html any time you want, from
the bookmark organizer window, from the toolbar item "Import & Backup".

Thank you everyone responding to my question post.
Changing it from present 'False' to 'True' appears to be what I want to do.
I appreciate the link in g's post for other entry usage, but
browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML is missing from the table. Could it be
incorrect link?

The link is
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML

Most things people really (maybe really, really, really) need are in
http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries
but that one is not. It was of course added in Version 3 and
for some reason they don't like having things in that table, they keep
doing massive purges. It is the only place that you will find any
consistency in names and related fields. Which probably means 10%
of what you do need won't be there.

I changed it to 'true' and closed FF and launched it. Then looked for
bookmarks.html in the profile but could not find it. Where is it
supposed to be? There is a subfolder 'bookmarkbackups' in which several
files with 'json' extension, but I did not see bookmarks in it.

If it is working, when you close Firefox it will put it into your profile
folder as bookmarks.html and you should see the created date.
There may be a setting for it to go somewhere else but look in
profile folder not subdirectories of the profile folder first.

You may need to take Firefox down/up one extra time for the change
to be recognized.

By now I opened and closed FFox several times but I still don't see
bookmarks.html anywhere in the profile folder.
You indicated "If it is working". I do not see anything wrong with the
FFox but maybe it is not working 100% normally.

I am thinking of reinstalling FFox but if at all possible I do not want
to start from a scratch. Another word I want to use existing custom
setting and bookmarks. Any suggestion is appreciated.

In the above there is no 'bookmarks.html'. Maybe I misunderstand
something. My problem is I don't see 'bookmarks.html' which is supposed
to be automatically created in the profile folder.

The profile is shared by FF on W7 and that on Vista. The problem was
noticed when FF on W7 was being used.
I switched FF on W7 to that on Vista, then "Could not initialize the
application's security component. . ." is displayed. I could fix this
problem and changed 'false' to 'true' for
browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML. Then the bookmarks.html was created in
the profile folder.
I switched FF back to that on W7 and found the "Could not initialize..."
problem. This indicates that the problem has something to do with W7.
I am having a problem with TBird on W7 and not on Vista both sharing
the same profile.
