It's still working correctly for me, Maurice.
Launchy 4.2.0 with Firefox 3.0.14 (windows XP SP3).
Although I updated to Fx 3.5 a few months ago, I created a test
profile using Fx 3.0.14 just now and installed Launchy 4.2.0 in it
from addons.mozilla.org (AMO). It auto-detects IE, Thunderbird,
Outlook Express, Forte Agent (Mail Client), Windows Media Player,
Media Player Classic, FlashGet (Download Manager), Explorer, Notepad,
OOo, WordPad, and IrfanView. It does not auto-detect Opera or
K-Meleon. I don't recall if it ever did. It doesn't auto-detect
those browsers in my Fx 3.5 install either, but I didn't notice that
until now. I don't use Launchy to bring up other browsers.
My launchy.xml file works too after a Fx restart. Launchy allows me
to View Source in Emacs.
>I cannot add the application's path in the options: the keyboard seems
>disabled???
I don't think that's intended to be editable. You have to use the
launchy.xml file. Here's mine.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configurations xmlns="http://launchy.mozdev.org/configurations">
<application>
<label>Emacs</label>
<type>7</type>
<command>D:\emacs\emacs-21.3\bin\runemacs.exe</command>
</application>
</configurations>
>Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't solved the problem.
It usually doesn't in Firefox. Creating a new profile is often
sufficient, but I don't know if it will fix this problem.
>What else can I do?
Update to Fx 3.0.14. At least you'd be using a version of Firefox
which doesn't have several public, unpatched vulnerabilities like Fx
3.0.11 does.
I'd create a new profile for test purposes and see if that fixes the
problem. If it does, then you can migrate your settings and data from
the old profile to the new one.
I'll see if I can get the launchy.xml to work for Opera 10 too. I'll
get back to you here if I can.
Hope this helps.

Might want to take a look at the following pages to see if there is
anything applicable to your situation:
This launchy.xml file supports Opera too. By the way, for at least a
year I've noticed that sometimes Launchy > Open Link in IE often
doesn't work. It doesn't work for Opera either. It may be caused by
a subtle incompatibility with Fx 3.0 and Fx 3.5.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configurations xmlns="http://launchy.mozdev.org/configurations">
<application>
<label>Opera</label>
<type>1</type>
<command>D:\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe</command>
</application>
<application>
<label>Emacs</label>
<type>7</type>
<command>D:\emacs\emacs-21.3\bin\runemacs.exe</command>
</application>
</configurations>
Hope this helps. Please let us know whether it does.
Hi Maurice,
I have Opera (it is Opera 10) in my launchy.xml which can be seen in
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/code/launchy.txt
I'm not sure if auto detection is every time or just when you first install Launchy.
Also not sure if you are using Launchy for the first time or are indicating that it
is not working for you. Will assume a bit closer to you've used it before.
Perhaps this is the first problem that you might be having with other extensions
as well. Deleting extensions.rdf in your chrome directory, and localstore.rdf
might help. As might uninstalling Launchy and reinstall Launchy. You will still have
all of your extensions show up as localstore.rdf and extensions.rdf are both recreated.
What you will lose is your customization of toolbars that you did through
View, Toolbars, Customization meaning you will have to change back to small icons
and move your icons around or back to your toolbars -- so taking a picture beforehand
of your toolbars would help.
Quick tip on using launchy.xml, since you have to have the coded integer correct,
I show each code in the descriptions included within launchy.xml so I know
that it is found because I added it and also what the coded integer is and that it is working.
Any mistake in the XML syntax will cause it to fail.
If it is a matter of not having used Launchy before. you won't see IrfanView show up
unless you right-click on an image. For Opera, I had to add to launchy.xml though
that could be because I had the extension installed before I had install Opera years ago.
My notes on Launchy are at (you may be better off pasting links to browser to get within topic)
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#launchy
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#launchy_notes (click on "more info" to expand)
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/quicklaunch.htm
My launchy.xml is set up for a Windows system.
Henrik Gemal has documented his extension quite well on his site, but my notes may help for
things slightly out of the ordinary, such as using multiple profiles.

HTH,
David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site

Maurice
For checking XML syntax try http://www.w3schools.com/Dom/dom_validate.asp
If that doesn't show up a problem:
Did you post your complete launchy.xml -- Was going to to suggest all of the
1's together before the 7's but I don't think that is the problem. If you are trying
to include double quotes to include spaces then that is a problem.
As we indicated what you are trying to do is not a problem (at least not in Windows)
my example is http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/code/launchy.txt
and I forgot to include Henrik's page before (though I did suggest reading his documentation).
http://gemal.dk/mozilla/launchy.html
be sure you have the TYPE code correct. (1 for browsers, ..., 6 for editors, 7 for images)
Now the very message that I am replying to disappeared from my listing of newsgroup postings,
(I am looking at threaded view of all postings in newsgroup, not just those unread)
though I think I had noticed it had a back timestamp on it., which if true would mean
your computer clock was not set correctly. Maybe I'll see thread better after posting.
You're welcome. Open Link in Opera doesn't always work, but I've
found that opening the current page in Opera does work with Launchy >
Open in Opera.
Hope this helps. Can you live better with this? :)
This thread in Google Groups:
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.firefox/browse_frm/thread/269ed08c4890981c/37ad5ccab2a023ff
Either the time on Maurice's computer is set incorrectly for local time and date and the time
difference, or Thunderbird, or Windows is messing up timestamps for New Caledonia. I see
a proper thread on Google Groups, but I am missing the original post by Maurice on my local
store (Windows Live Mail) and the threading is incorrect on my local store. It always seemed
to me that problems with missing postings had something to do with TB, maybe it also has
something to do with locations near the International Time Line during certain times.
Of course there are other reasons that some messages disappear from other users
and they are typically those that turn off archiving. Google won't archive if someone
indicates archiving whether on or off (unless they fixed that). (reg, >Q<, and EE)
but their messages remain in my local store of messages but can't be found searching
on Google (after three days).
servers.
but
1. I had an error in the XML file, a missing </label>; I probably
deleted it inadvertently.
The only application that doesn't show up in the menu is Google Chrome;
are the following lines correct?
<application>
<label>Google Chrome</label>
<type>1</type>
<command>C:\Documents and Settings\Maurice\Local
Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"</command>
<arguments></arguments>
</application>
2. my computer clock was not set correctly; maybe it changed after a
'blue screen".
Tanks again for your efficient help.

Easy to spot problem in someone else's code.
You have unmatched double quote between command tags, as I indicated
I've not been able to include quotes in launchy.xml, remove that quote.
The problem occurs when you use spaces in a Firefox profile name, I've not
been successful at that and had to rename the profile name to without spaces,
which is easy but does not change he actual filename.
Surprised that the XML syntax checker did not pick that up, even though
I guess it is not part of the XML syntax. Since there is a space I guess you need
the double quote at the beginning (not sure), but using quotes.
Thanks for telling me your computer time was incorrect, that certainly seems
to explain the loss of a posting in the thread as seen in OE variant Windows
Live Mail and okay in Google. I think the time is part of the message-id,
which might never be a problem unless the original poster posts later with
an earlier date. It's interesting the way that Google handles the change of
subject title in the threaded view and back to original title.
