Not sure whether this is a Windows or Mozilla problem, but if I have
Firefox open, and open anything else, its window appears underneath the
FF window.

All other programs behave normally.

Is there anything I can do to change back?

Thank you for typing the question into Google for me. It types so much
better than I do, and I enjoyed watching it.

However, it gave me answers to "how to make Firefox window remain always
on top of other windows?" and not what I wanted.

Thanks anyway.

Oh, restarting the computer fixed the problem.

--which leads you to lots of helpful suggestions about how to keep the
Firefox window on top ... which is the opposite of what the OP is looking
for--namely a way of persuading Firefox NOT to sit on top of a window that
has just been opened.

To the OP: sorry, I can't help; never encountered such a problem. [1]

[1] (except in several circumstances wherein a single click would have been
enough to open the required window ... a double click starts the new process
but then returns the focus to the window in which I've just done those
clicks, thus causing it to stay on top.)

No. I never make misteaks.
