A friend recently was told he has to turn in his corp laptop,
as he was moving to a different area....

He had set his browser to remember his passwords,
so he didn't have to type them each time.

How can he get this type of info deleted ?

In general - what's a good way to cleanse your laptop of data,
without also destroying the OS -

First I would go into Firefox, Options, Security, Saved Logins and in
that screen click Remove All.

The process for Thunderbird is identical

While there may be better ways, I would use a Shredder utility and shred
the Mozilla profile folders.

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

As for other data folders I would use the same tool and shred those
folders also.

I use McAfee Total protection but I think the Shredder tool is available
in other McAfee packages, and as freeware. I did use a piece of
freeware to scrub a disk on my last computer, but I forget what it was.
I found it be review the software in a search from "Shedder tools". and
"Clean old disk"

As far as cleaning the registry you some one else will need to help you.

Assuming some form of Windows: Uninstall the programs then go in and
manually delete all the program remains.
Regedit and scan for remains there then delete.
Or just wipe the hdd and o/s using a Linux disk.
The company is going to wipe it and reinstall an o/s anyways.
I always turn mine in totally wiped and non functional.

IMO, setting a laptop to remember p/w's is a really, really bad idea.
Lose the company laptop and some one can wipe all the accounts
and bankrupt the company.
Exactly like that guy in California did about a year ago.

something like this:

Tools >> Options Privacy

Now look for something like this:

Delete History

When you click on the boxed item, you get another screen.  In this screen mark everything as shown in this picture:

Second Screen

Now you need to clear all passwords:  See this picture:

Clear Passwords

Make sure you click on "Remove All" button so that everything is deleted.

That's it.

Restart your browser and check again to make sure everything is gone.

Good luck.

You should first ask what data his corporation is after!

Does that corp. have the right to do that?

I had to look on that list today, and it was interesting that I had 5
lines t hat were duplicates, or a pair with both an old and new
password. It hadn't caused problems but I deleted the extra ones.
