I've found that if you just mouse'n'click "Open in new tab", there is
often a glitch. If you mouse, wait a beat or two, then click, it works.

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem
still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see

Click on 'Search Settings' upper right corner of the google page. Click
'Open search results in a new browser window.' box at the bottom. Set
Firefox to open new windows in tabs.
Any other page I try to open links in new tabs it works.....so i don't
think that the firefox setting to open new windows in tabs should be a
problem....like i said: this only happens with google search
results........
also this happens in safe mode too!!!
thanks for all of your help
also in firefox safe mode: all the google search results were being
redirected to ad sites
>> also this happens in safe mode too!!!
i did not notice in all of previous post, but, just how are you trying
to open in another tab?
ria, center mouse button is what i use and it has never fails to open
a link in a new tab.

To be clear, this is what I'm doing:
1) perform a google search
2) right click on different search results links and click "open in
new tab" in order to open multiple tabs
3) the new tab is opened/created, the link is displayed in the link
bar/address bar...BUT the page isn't loaded.
4) the only way to load page is to click on the address bar and hit
"enter" and the page finally loads...only this works.........pressing
"reload" doesn't work....nothing else works...
This only happens when I try to open google search result links in
tabs.......if i try to open links in new tabs using the left click
method on any other website/page...it works flawlessly like it should

You should have your Google "settings" (upper right corner of search results)
set to open in a new page, and your Firefox tab options to open
new windows in tabs instead.
But it sounds like you have a serious problem, and is going to take
take several attempts to help. Hope you know about
Firefox Safe Mode and what it is used for, and know how to
test for extension problems if it works in Safe Mode by turning
off half of your active extensions until problem disappears
when you have identified the culprit if it is an extension.
First one I tried like you mention took a long time to open
but turned out it had flash or something similar and it hadn't been
opened before. Other than that I don't see a difference,
and certainly no blank pages. If you have "Adblock Plus"
extension toggled on or off (toolbar or statusbar) try the other
setting and see what happens.

HTH,
David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site
Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm
I'll try the checkdown steps u suggested in Safe Mode to see if any of
the extensions are the problem.......but i don't think its the google
search settings or the firefox open windows in new tabs......b/c the
same problem occurs if i just click on the google search results link
(i.e: NOT try to open in new tab/window...just clicking the link
normally as you would do to open that page.......

none of which is clicking with middle mouse button.
i would try disabling google address bar. that is, right click
on 'tool bar', select 'customize' and drag "google bar" into
"customize toolbar" window, close window.
next log google, run a search, with *middle mouse* button, click on a
link to see what happens.
if nothing, open "about:config", filter = middle, check to see that both
"browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" and "middlemouse.opeNewWindow" are
set to 'true'. if 'false', double left click to change to 'true'.
also, open 'tools > options > tabs' and check to see that you have
[] Open new windows in a new tab instead
checked.
hth.
The point of this exercise is to get google to open a new tab without
having to go through the gyrations of right clicking.
Convenient in any situation. Tabs are cheap.
What happens next, if the correct link opens or not, is likely due to
some malware infestation.
