Hi,

I didn't get arount the following problem, maybe someone in this group
can give me a hint:

I've got 2 systems, one Linux and one Windows. I've got firefox
installed on both systems and regularly use it on both. My home on
linux is identical to 'My Documents'-folder on windows.

Now I want to share the bookmark-file between both installations of
firefox. What's the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Stephan

For me, I have several bookmarks, and I've placed all my bookmarks
into one directory called Mozilla Bookmarks. Now in the address bar,
type in about:config and look for the entry of:

browser.bookmarks.file

double click on that and change the location of the file. If you
don't have it, then click on any entry, right click and select New,
String and in the first box enter the above line, and in the 2nd,
place your location.

And that should be it.

Good info, Chris. BTW, I will be in Toronto tomorrow, briefly. I'll
wave. Grin.

I haven't gotten around to doing this yet myself, but the following page
gives instructions on how to mount a network share on boot up on the
linux box:

http://easylinux.info/wiki/Fedora_fc5#How_to_mount_network_folders_on_boot-up.2C_and_allow_all_users_to_read.2Fwrite

That page refers to Fedora Core 5 specifically, but there is nothing
distro specific in the instructions, that I can see. It seems pretty
generic to me.

Note that this assumes that you have already set up a shared folder on
the windows box. I created a folder named SharedData, and subfolders
named Firefox & Thunderbird. Then follow gwtc's or Chris's advice on
both installations of FF to set the location of the bookmark file.

I have done that already, for the windows boxes & that is where I store
my bookmarks & my mail & newsgroups for Thunderbird, as well.

thanks for all those replies. i've created the entry
"browser.bookmarks.file" in the about:config-page and now i see the
same bookmarks in both of my firefoxes. great! (only problem is, that i
have to take care not to save bookmarks in parallel, as the last
firefox-session might overwrite changes of the previous - but that's a
minor issue)

another little issue: when first entering the new config-entry, i
misspelled it accidentially. now interestingly there does not seem to
be a way to delete obsolete entries from about:config. or is there?

regards,
stephan

Some say to reset the entry to blank, close FF and reopen it, and its
supposed to be gone.

I prefer to close the program, and open the prefs.js file and remove
the entry there. This file is in your profile. To find your profile
you can read this: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/edit#profile

but, if you're using windows, then you must read this first:

On 31.05.2006 01:39 pm, CET - what odd quirk of fate caused steph to
generate the following:? :

IIRC - it is a right-click on the bad entry and RESET
