When installing version 8 I had a window that said that both AVG Safe Search and
Awesome Screenshot were incompatible and would be removed. It's been some time
now and I happened to go to Tools>Add Ons>Extensions and AVG safe search is in
the main list with a "disable" button (Awesome Screenshot was below in the
cast-off section).

This would indicate to me that AVG Safe Search was working, but when searching
it doesn't display the "Safe" logo. I am thinking of going back to v 7.

Is there any compelling reason not to go back for the safe search feature that I
liked a lot?

This says that it works

Maybe ask on that forum if it doesn't?

Thank you.

I have a version that is numbered higher than the one referenced and my
extensions list has it looking like a normal addition. I will ask AVG why it
doesn't have those little shields by each link in a google list to show that the
link is safe.

I went to the AVG forums and found a question similar to mine. Here is the
answer, to the effect that there isn't a /green/ icon at safe sites but a red
one at unsafe sites:
"
"This is correct behavior. Only bad search verdict icons will be displayed where
necessary using AVG Secure Search. The search engine is being enhanced, the
search result evaluation will be done at server-side, not in the client (as it
is with other search providers).
Try searching for example "keylogger desktop software" which should show some
results with active threats."

I did go search using those terms and found a couple of entries on the list
which were tagged. It is much quicker, as well.

Thanks again for your reply.
