Profile mgr shows one as being "default" and has the path D:\Program
Files\firefox profile\xxxxxxDefault.
The other is shown in profile mgr as "Firefox Test," and has the path
D:\Program Files\firefox profile-2. This does not have the several
character profile name assigned by FF, it goes directly into the guts of
the profile.
Guess that's how I set them up at the outset and now would like to
remove the duplicate "default" profile and only keep the one that is in use.
Attempted to move "default" out to another partition, but that wouldn't
allow FF to properly run on the other profile.
In C\Program Files\ there is \Mozilla Firefox\ with what appears under
it are most of the components of a profile, except bookmarks, address
books and the like are missing. And some of the file dates are last
year. (Don't believe I would have ever cut files out as copy is my
normal method, but who knows at this stage. Perhaps I re-downloaded FF
and allowed it to install here.)
In C\docs & settings\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ which contains a profile
ccpohwv3.default. This one is even more basic than the one in C\Program
Files, presumably the original - although the dates are from last year.
There is a registry.dat under \Mozilla\(presumably that can be
deleted?), but no .ini. That resides under \firefox\. And reads:
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=0
Path=D:\Program Files\Firefox Profile\f3k1zjjxw.default
[Profile1]
Name=Firefox-Test
IsRelative=0
Path=D:\Program Files\Firefox Profile-2
Default=1
Is this the correct method? Presumably I need to remove the profile0
statement with reference to default. And if so, how should the 2nd
paragraph be altered -- have it read Profile0, and delete the "Default=1"?
Secondly after that is completed would like to remove the word "test"
from the profile manager, and the "-2" from the name of the profile. Is
that simply a matter of making those changes, along with deleting the
"-2" in the .ini? Of course, I would make a backup of all prior to
touching them.

Not yet due to fear of the name "default" which presumably was supplied
by FF. Guess I could try that, but as I recall doing such doesn't
change the .ini. That would be manually done.

Will delete it.

Yes.

You got it.

Will do the the foregoing, then worry about changing the name of the
existing profile and correcting the .ini.

Failed!!
Did as you suggested, deleting the "default" profile from profile mgr.
First copied it out to another drive. Then deleted it using the button
in Prof.Mgr. Opened the other one remaining profile. Have large grey
bar at bottom and a small grey toolbar at top with an icon representing
Session Mgr. Opened it and changed it to use tabmixplus mgr and I
believe FF's. Reopened, same thing.
Then copied back the old default profile. It will open, but it's basic
and the 2nd profile opens the same with the grey bars.
Believe the bar is generally caused by an extension, but can't locate
any info because Mozillazine KB is down.
First question is: Why did removing the one extension not being used
affect the other? Could it relate to the .ini?
Second question: Since everything else appears normal in the profile
currently running, how do I get rid of the grey bars?

Finally got onto Mozillazine and went through all of the steps and no
change. Restored the profile folder from a prior image and now back to
square one. Hopefully someone will have some ideas to try tomorrow.
