Simple 'for instance.'

A url is copied from an open FF page... that 'copy' will not paste if I
close FF. I don't recall this issue in the past BUT it does not seem to
be that way in IE.

Ex: I opened this page in FF and IE (separately) -
I attempted to paste it after copying from the URL in FF... zip, nothing
came up.
I copied it from the URL space in IE, closed IE, it pasted fine.

Obviously there could be some glitch in my system copy, etc... but just
asking. Thanks!

No problems here. Do you have any addons installed that might interfere
with copying? Have you tried it with Firefox opened with addons
disabled (safe mode)?

Is not the copy function a part of windows?

Yes it is.

Can't say if this applies to this problem, but on some systems the best
practice for an application is to clear the contents it wrote to the
system clipboard (the paste buffer), or at least clear it if it's above
a certain size.

I think FF also clears from the clipboard what was copied there from a
private window once that is closed.

The latter makes good sense, the other does not. The clipboard is
intended to move data from one program to another, even if the
originating program has finished. I do this often, and would be annoyed
if all programs cleared their clipboard data on exit.

Do you by any chance have a wireless keyboard working on this computer?
If so, perhaps the copy function has been changed on your keyboard?

fwiw, (nothing to the OP since they're using Windows) My Linux (Ubuntu)
computers do not retain URL's copied to the clipboard after Firefox is
closed.
I've always chalked it up to a "Linux" thing...

the URL on the clipboard after I exited FireFox. Perhaps it's a call to the
GTK clipboard manager through the UI toolkit that FF employs?
